INFO panels in BA locker room
« on: December 03, 2017, 12:47:19 AM »
okay,
everyone knows them, the big advertising boards flickering in the spawning room of the main hangar...

If we could make them actually useful and more appealing, and all I can say Santa is straddling his irvases...

so, here i begin the list:

1. Press [F12] for screenshot,
find the pictures in <exact path to the files>, or
on the launcher shortcuts (needs to be added to the launcher yet?)
<Image of an Assault mech crouching in front of and ASF>

2. Team Speak 3: let your voice be heard:
mwll.mwmaster.net
wr-clan.no-ip.org
<others and which ones>
<Image of vulture and madcat cresting over an ridge>

3. Discord.me/mwll
<image of discord window blending to an fight scene>

4. wiki,mechlivinglegends.net: get the facts
<an array of mechs in front of an main hangar- day time>

5. stats.spikx.net: Who's online and where,
when are most players active
<a planet from orbit, blending into a fight on TC_Dune near the HPG dish>

6. forum - if we had one yet ;)
<Clan vs IS assault standing tall facing each other in an urban map - possibly on a bridge few vtols in the background >

We need:
-suggestions - the better the ideas the better yet!
-art
-masters of design

once we decide the best - we bake them and submit for inclusion in the game.

come help make MWLL the better game it is.

In a day or two I will provide for existing art the banners feature now, for illustration.

I think it's a great idea for bit of modernization.

1. is not really important to new players in the game
2.-6. make no sense to have them ingame. The launcher already has a bunch of links to: twitch, reddit, discord, facebook, youtube and the wiki
Links in general make no sense in the game as you can't click them and they might change or become invalid at some point.

Imo if you really want to add to those screens, you should think about important stuff for new players

@ Deimos,
Agreed.

Having had few discussions elsewhere too in this regard:

1. All external URL are to be avoided
2. All non endorsed subjects are to be kept off game ( or immersion suffers)
3. Humor is lacking (a wit or two not more)
4. New players suffer from lots of things
every once in a while we have an in game chat:
"how do I get into an mech?"
"how do I buy camo?"
"how do  I repair?" <-that's a most common one?
"why it won't repair?"
"how do I buy an mech?"

So, we need make this screens as practical and as useful as we can?

1. we try get them illustrated
2. we try get them to be clear (newbies don't know where to look for weapon groups, let alone adjust them)
3. how do you (and why) send money (and when)
4. "To enter an mech try to jump on it with your jump jets [space]"
5. "To buy an mech enter the buy menu [,] in buy area (the by cart should be depicted in the background)"
6. "To set the weapon groups use arrow keys and [space] (in background the weapon groups GUI element should be emphasized)"
7. "Sending money to a team mate will entitle a player to ask for it back when he needs it the most [right-ctrl][arrows][enter]"
8. "In chat type "spares?" to ask teammates for c-bills donation (word "spares?" emphasized in background image)"
9. "To fire artillery, deploy the asset with [left-ctrl], un-deploy to move on"
10. "Not each forward base can repair every asset - some do  up to only 60 tonnes"

Each message should be illustrated in a convenient and helpful way.

Let's see some more suggestions and gather the needed in game images?

These need to be informative and easy to read.

Generally try to avoid anything that may get changed in future releases.

About stuff...

Weapons groups: arrow keys + control to set weapons groups (but is that final version?)
Reticle: press F1 to lock arms
Sending money: don't send money to dead players (it may be lost)
Repairing: Shut down [P] to start repairs (but not all build bays are repair bays and sadly that is map specific issue)

So many help ideas, so few screens available  ::)

1. Buying - check for the "buy cart" bottom left on the HUD (image if the icon on the HUD (with a zoom balloon)

1b. Ammo dump - can't we have material (pick-able) object represent the dumped ammo?
Would it be too much to ask for? I didn't even ask it be explosive if fired upon?

2. Repairing - we need an repairing icon on the HUD if the asset enters an repair area (an gear and an wrench?)

3. Weapon grouping is a good one (quite often encountered) (has to be illustrated - top right corner and keyboard block)

4. C-bills sent to players that are not spawned in the game, are lost to ComStar  (the red scull icon and ComStar badge drawing)

5. To enter an asset climb it, turn to it, and press [f] key. To jump further use [space] key (HUD displaying "enter" sign to be drawn)

6. If Your asset can't move while it's powered on, it's probably crouched or deployed, use [leftCtrl] to un-crouch (an crouched Atlas and the HUD indicator).

the above seems thus far the longest to last set dealing with most newbie related issues?
