That is true... but I didn't see any contract statement in Crysis saying they would release at least x number of patches... in fact, I don't think I have ever seen any game come with a guarantee of patches.
That's true, but it has become a habit for all good studios to maintain actual product support for longer than half a year - just like the patch on release day (or shortly after) has become a (bad one though) habit.
Everyone should know that when you buy a game, what you see is what you get. Anything on top of that is gravy. They don't have to buy the product.
And quite likely they won't in the future. In terms of good marketing, this decision comes close to suicide.
But can I fault them for it? Not really... they have to eat too.
People might not forget that they were actually left behind with this product that displayed so many flaws to so many people:
- still unresolved cheater problem, which is a huge problem comparing player base and number of cheaters
- lack of good and popular multiplayer modes
- several unfixed issues since the beta
