Number of mech models under development
« on: June 07, 2008, 05:46:13 AM »
Do we have a number on how many different types mechs the artists are currently working on?

Is there any rhyme or reason to which Mechs have been selected to develop first, or is it just a matter of person perference for each modeler?
Smoke Jaguar! Smoke Jaguar! Sitting tight,
poised to pounce in the dim moonlight.
What grim mother gave you birth?
What the terror on the earth!

Mostly it's a matter of a choice of a few, but there is no REAL rhyme or reason overall (though thats becoming less the case, as we're needing more specific mech implementation ready). Mostly its been a case of who is doing it, what do they prefer and which mechs fit their artistic style. (Don't give the atlas to the guy who likes graceful curves :p )

Actually, that is incorrect. The mechs are carefully selected with game balance in mind. Every vehicle must counter and be countered by another on the oposing team. There is also a concern of evenly selecting vehicles from both side of comprable type and number. There's alot more to it than that, actually, but you get the idea.

Perhaps I misunderstood the question, I thought he (she?) was asking whether there was any order to the creation (on the basic level, of making the model, rig, weapons, ect) of the mechs that we have planned.

Or mabey I did. Either way the answer is there.

If it's a matter of just which order they're being done in, it's partially an issue of templating as well. Mechs with certain features are needed, for example, for the animators to develop movement templates. So you need one with a reverse knee, one with a forward knee, and one with double knees, as an example.
