Mechwarrior 2 was the first one i played (bout when i was 6) so

mech 2 for the story, music.

mech 3 for the graphics, textures.

mech 4 for handling and multi.

over all i like mech 2 the best  8)

BattleTech: The Crescent Hawks' Inception - (Also I liked to dominate all those light mechs with my Chameleon ;)) - I wish this game could get a good remake...
The MechCommander series - waiting for a third part
and MW 4 Vengeance without the expansion pack - because the expansion did take away the chance to choose the ending...

Those are some of the few games I played till the end ;)
Please don't mind my bad English since I'm German.

MW3 was the best for me.  The jump from 2 to 3 was amazing and was more than just a face lift.  Mech has a solid feel, could be knocked down, some destructible terrain.

The textures were very mechanical and clean.  To this day until MWLL it looked the best to me.  MW4 was too cartoony with their messed up camo schemes, and arcady HUD.

MechWarrior 2:31st Century Combat, is my favorite, it didn't have the largest mech selection, but I loved the music(so much so I have it on my mp3 player), it was the first one I played, I liked the fact the mechlab let you do non canon things(JumpJets on a Timber Wolf anyone?) and the fact if you had the room and weight, it didn't matter you could slap it on. Clans are beast too.

mechwarrior 2 mercs definitely holds the title for me, I've played the campaign through so many more times than any other mechwarrior game (single player) to date.

But for multiplayer, mechwarrior 4 has been the better choice to date.
Play my free open source web game MiniMek - Urbie Defense!  Its "mega fun" but with mini meks!

I started my BT career with MW2 when i was ... hm like 12 yo?
i played MW2 so much, i think i kept playing it more than any other game.
i got MW2 GBL and MW2 Merc, and played both alot aswell.
the best of all MW games is the GBL instant action. the only game where you could choose RANDOM WAVES !
oh MW2 merc was highlight untill mw3 came out.
the cool things MW2 merc had was stuff like satelite rader map and missile camera. you could actualy spy on your targets if you shoot some missiles with the camera on.

But mw3 changed things like the PPK. its no longer a plasma ball. it was a beam. but you still had to aim in front of moving targets. the balistic of MW3 was way better than mw4 with their instant hit ACs

The only downside of mw3 was the multiplayer part.

im glad that MWLL got stuff like the beamlaser moving over the target and the AC and PPC need pre-aiming on moving targets... but its quite hardware hungry for many of my old friends.

mw4 mercs
People are stupid if they think they can have their own way.

... that is, unless they have HEAP rounds, high-explosive homing missiles, and terawatt lasers on a walking weapons platform, that is...

Actually Aiden Pryde in Falcon Guard outfitted his Timber Wolf with Jumpjets, yes it is odd, yes they are addons, but yes it can be done ;)

In short in matters battle armor, aerospace and omnimech

I found out at a later point that it's possible, although multiple places say it's not. It's kind of odd, but as long as there is proof it's possible, to hell with the neighsayers, It's the Alt-S config. with the JumpJets

You can add jumpjets to Omnimechs without a problem, most famous example being aforementioned Aidan Pryde's Timberwolf.
Removing fixed jumpjets is not possible though :P

Mech 3 by a good bit. I think that singleplayer is what makes a MW game for me, and this had the best. I loved the realistic and very professional mission briefings. *freeze video!* the voice acting wasn't absolutely horribad like in MW4 either. And I liked the feeling of being 'in' a mech and not being 'the' mech. Graphics were also the best and had the best theme because the color pallet was dark and gritty, and all mechs looked like war machines. Mech 4 looks like super happy fun land.

Although MWLL is the only game to 'get' how loadouts should handle so far.
