A couple things...I'm new :-)
« on: July 08, 2008, 04:58:06 PM »
Well, first off, I was wondering what people thought of adding mechs from the later technical readouts (for instance, my favorite, the Pillager)?  I realize that the mechs are pretty much set for release, but perhaps we could pick a few more, hold a community vote, and add one to each side?  I dunno, just an idea.

Secondly, I was wondering--since a lot of people are looking at this more as an MMO instead of a Counterstrike type game with mechs, what thought has been given to player interaction.  I mean, are their space ports and bases and the like where the human characters will be running around without mechs?  If this hasn't been thought of, I think it'd be a cool idea (thought it might be a little extensive to do by launch).

Anyway, thanks for helping the noob learn whats going on in advance! :)

Keep in mind that additional 'Mechs could always be added AFTER release.  I'm enormously pleased that we'll be getting 28 'Mechs at release as it is. (Assuming things are still going as planned.)

As for MMO vs. Counterstrike... As I see it, this game will be more of a Battlefield 2142 type game. Not an MMO, or a small scale tactical shooter.  So you'll have places to defend, and places that produce 'Mechs and vehicles, but no where to catch a kaf with your mates or stage an in game wedding. (Unless you can get a white dress on the Fafnir.)

As for running around without 'Mechs, you have the option of Battle Armor, and both air and ground vehicles.  No infantry at release though.

To get a better idea, maybe check out some Crysis multiplayer or Battlefield videos on youtube.  Keep in mind though that even the weakest soldier in MWLL will have a full suit of powered armor, and some kind of high powered laser weapon.  Also keep in mind that the 'Mechs we'll have at our fingertips will put anything in Battlefield to shame.  (Except maybe for Flea pilots.)

As Overwatch said the community will be able to add 'Mechs. This won't be an easy task though. Be prepared to get around some problems when trying to add a 'Mech on your own. There is a lot of skill involved to get it in the game.

There has been a thread for "your favorite mech of all time" - I am guessing that was aimed for the pre-release time to add the most wanted mechs.

Lets just wait and see :)

Again as Overwatch said: This is no MMO. See it as a big scaled military tactical shooter in the year 3050+ :D

And now: Welcome to the forums! Maybe we will see you in-game someday too :)

Should god (read: Kamikaze) ever finish his greatest creation (read: newsletter), you'll notice that we will be making several changes to the current list of vehicles anyways. Before you start to worry: a very small number of mechs will be /replaced/ and the ground vehicles will actually get extended.
That, however, is the last change to the motor pool before release - or so we hope at least.

We never just somehow suggested we were working on anything with an MMO feel, sorry to disappoint you. We're working on a mech sim/shooter and - in terms of genres - barely more than that. From what I can tell so far, Wandering Samurai Studios - the studio behind MWLL - will not be working on making MWLL an MMO. Not for the initial release and as it currently stands, not after that either, sorry again. Several devs have already expressed an interest in plans like that though, so chances are that a mix of public and developer interest could lead to this being done by us. If not, there should at least be people around, who worked on the main game and are ready to support others who would want to make MWLL an MMO.

I would ask you for more info, and to define replaced, and for you to spell out exactly what 'Mechs aren't going to survive... But instead I shall wait patiently for the newsletter and light a stick of incense on my Shadowcat altar.

"Replaced" means they won't be in the initial release. They might show up with a later update, but that hasn't been discussed so far - and won't be discussed anytime soon either.
One of them isn't a surprise anyways I think, as we already mentioned its replacement a few times around here. The Daishi won't make it into the initial release. Its replacement is an old friend I guess, as it's been one of our first finished - and definitely one of our best - models: the Kodiak.
The second Mech replacement occurs on IS side, but for that you'll indeed have to wait for the newsletter ;)
And no, it's neither the Fafnir nor the Atlas.

But instead I shall wait patiently for the newsletter and light a stick of incense on my Shadowcat altar.

No worries about that one. The Shadowcat has so many fans on the team, if it got removed for some reason, we'd probably be closing doors anyways ;)

No worries, I'm not exactly hoping for an MMO--I just miss my ol' Mech Warrior games and this mod seems to be much like them, but better, so I'm psyched for this in just about any form.

I was just curious and wanted to get a better idea about what direction the game was being developed in.  I figured the fastest and easiest way to do that was to post up here. :-)

Well, I didn't see the Dire Wolf (Daishi) in the official factions list in mod info section, so its removal is fine with me.  And good news on the Kodiak.  I was just joking with Seraph earlier how I think I finally found an assault 'Mech that I like. :)

I have a guess what it is, but I'll keep it to myself (and the TLL) until the newsletter comes out.

BAHHAHAHA

Alright, being on the dev team, and having worked with Kami towards finishing the newsletter content for this month, this is both extra funny AND appropriate. We will officially be making up for lost time on this newsletter :p.
