Mechwarrior: Trials of War
« on: August 14, 2008, 07:58:31 PM »
I'm making a mod for Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun based on mechwarrior, although it'll have some extra stuff that isn't really canon.

See more at http://www.ppmsite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19983

Recruiting graphical artists, send me a PM either here or there :)

Hey, nice work so far. I'm guessing that's a 99-01 era game?

Aug 1999, yeah :) The graphical work isn't mine but all the coding so far is. Well, almost, with a little help :)

One thing man, looking at your latest screens i saw the summoner firing a PPC, and it looked kinda disappointing. Firestorm has really nice particle effects (railgun on mammoth MKII, firewall, etc.), so am i just disappointed because the screen didn't catch the effect in all its glory, or does the ppc really look like a gigantic series of floating cyan balls?

The firestorm wall effects are unfortunately a single animation, but I'm still working on the PPC, I don't yet understand railgun logic that well so I'm going to experiment more at a later time. That is just a placeholder for the moment, I thought it looked OK but I guess not. Unfortunately railgun logic gives instantaneous travel times for projectiles, so I don't know how it will turn out.

Remember, these are just screens from an early alpha, it's been in development just two weeks :)

ahah don't worry man, i'm not criticizing. I couldn't do any of that even if i wanted to and it's pretty frickin' awesome. I was just curious, though I would recommend that you try and adjust it a bit before you call it done ;).

Nice idea but why do you take a game that's nearly 10 years old?

Heh, mainly because I found the 'mech graphics made specifically for TS and the guy who made them let me use them, plus it's much easier to mod than most games :P Still quite a lot to do and if anyone feels like making a few more 'mech images, PLEASE contact me, that's the only part I can't reasonably do, I'm trying my hand at making a dropship at the moment, I'm learning blender, and I'm going to try making some buildings, but I have no chance of making a good 'mech :P

On holiday in France at the moment so development is pretty much on hiatus at the moment :P

^_^ Nearly all of the code is done now, just the artwork left really, and fixing a bug or two. Still need a graphical artist! Need to make lots of structures and a few more mechs, and a few miscellaneous things. :)
