New to MWLL, but loving it
« on: February 03, 2012, 09:33:38 PM »
I've been playing mechwarrior games since MW2 indirectly caused me to fall in love with computer games over a decade ago. The idea of a MW game with a multiplayer focus is really cool, and that's why I've been caught up in the MechWarrior online rush (Brought to you by the same people who finished duke nukem online!).

So, I've decided to finally go out and buy the $20 crysis warfare pack so that I could sharpen my mech-wrecking skills. I have to say, getting this beta mod working has been one of the more complex computer related tasks I've done in a while (and I work IT for a living!). However it has been rewarding so far... I'm still coasting on the high from taking out my first mech in MWLL. (it was a damaged loki, I got him with several missile salvos from my Owens :) )

Awesome.
Sorry to hear about the technical difficulties, glad to see you made it in and are enjoying yourself.

it's not so much technical difficulties, more of downloading all ~4 gigs for crysis, then all 3 gigs of the mod (hell of a mod when it's almost as large as the source game), dropping into a normal cyrsis game, then getting my CD key saved correctly, then reducing the many CTDs I've been getting. It's almost enough to get me to go out and buy seven 64 bit, lol.

I look forward to getting some solid time in.

Thanks for the replies, guys, but unfortunately my CTD problem is still pretty severe. I have been playing this game for 5 hours and have not yet participated in a full game (from start to finish) without CTDing. I can't afford switching to a 64 bit OS right now :/

As frustrating as it is, I know some people who for months played like this until they upgraded.

It saddens me to know there are things that impact people's play that we have no control over.
Try out the next patch coming up, perhaps that may help. Seems stability is random between patches, even if we barely change anything that would affect performance.

I was wondering if the mod was being coded on 64 bit OS's or something like that? Maybe optimizing one version for 32 bit and one for 64 bit would help? (but would that make it so 32-bit OS couldn't play with 64bit?)

*shrug*, maybe I'm clueless. I just work with computer hardware for a living, i'm no code wizard. I look forward to the next patch though!

edit: the next patch is already out!! I'll download it as soon as I get home :)

You only need to have 64 bit 7, get the OEM builders version for $99 at newegg.

I actually just bought my wife a new custom built (pink lol) rig, and that was the exact OS I ordered :p It's going to be difficult not to snatch it from her :(

Maybe next paycheck.

LOL, see I just built my new system and told my wife she needed to come up with the money for a new gaming Laptop. Evil I know....but I had already forked out $1984 for an HP DV9000 custom a few years ago for her. Next Laptop likely to be an ASUS G73 series.

I'm still hopping along with the system I put together for college in 2009. I got vista when it was hot and fresh :p now the only original components left from that build are my intel core 2 duo 3.0ghz cpu and the horribly gaudy, LED ridden case.. <3

Ouch! What socket is it? I use to play this with 32bit windows 7 and a E8500 Wolfsdale 3.16Ghz, it worked but not nearly as good as it does now. I later swapped it for a Q9550s for cheap off Ebay and Windows 7 64bit.
