^ No such off the shelf laptop exists.

Period.

*I won't believe this is actually a real game until it is downloaded into my machine, which, at that time, I will run naked down my street, begging forgiveness of each dev listed in this thread.

:)

happy hunting...and BTW...get the 9800Nvidia...put it on a quad core intel machine with 8gb of Ram, a 500gb SATA, with Xp loaded, and you have the fastest machine on earth.

Period.

Vista SUCKS

I don't appreciate being called a liar. I work with computers for a living, have for nearly a decade... I think I know a little something about something.

Not interested in your apology, but posting the same comment to every thread is not cool. Quite thread jacking, you've been warned.

Agreed. I prefer Win 2K to XP even, but can't get drivers for the 64 bit version for all my hardware so stuck with Vista, at least till I book up Fedora ;D

BTW, 9800 is a series of video cards, not a single one. There's the GT, the GTX, GTX+, and GX2. However, none of them qualifies as el cheapo, though I personally consider the 9800GT to be pretty solid bang for the buck, though, unless you're gonna SLI, I would go with the 8800GTX instead as they both share the same G92 GPU but one saves you a bit of cash.

Technically, the fastest machine on earth is a supercomputer.

Even going past that to consumer hardware, the best you can do right now is an overclocked, supercooled Intel Core i7 965 EE with 12 GB DDR3 memory (until they come out with 4 GB DIMMs, in which case you can double that) and three GTX 280s in SLI (I'm told certain motherboards support this). It'll probably cost you at least three or four grand, but nonetheless.

Skulltrail board.
there's stock xeons with 4x2,6GHz of which you can put 2 on that board giving you 2x4x2,6GHz . . the board has 4 PCIe x16 slots for graphics adapters . . and as far as i know, with 4 slots you can fit in 16Gigs of ECC FB DDR2 RAM . . and then you can overclock
don't know if it will work, but theoretically, you could have 4 dual-graphics cards in there . .
giving you effective 8 GPU's, 8 CPU's and 16 GB of RAM . . fast enough?
no?
slap 2 SSD'S in and Raid0 them . .
or two 10 or 15k rp/m HDD's and Raid0 those . .

965 - 1k
12GB - 1k
3x280 -1.2k
mobo - .5k
R0 SSD- 1.2k
case - .3k
psu - .3k
H2O - .5k
$6k
plus, oh, 2.5k for a couple of huge displays and a KB/M ;)
Top range computers are a hell of a lot more money than high end computers ($2k) and those are a lot more than mid range ($.8k). "Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?" and all.

I'm thinking an eVGA 9800gt.  I did some side work over the weekend which got me $40, so my card budget increased.  The price after rebate on tigerdirect.com is $109.

Now will you leave me alone???    ;D ;D
