Primarily tanks.  I envision myself in a long-range fire support role, and mechs just draw too much fire to do that effectively.  Doesn't mean I would try out a mech if I got the chance, but my combat style would still be to sit back with Gauss Rifle/LRMs.

Thats EXACTLY what i want to counter - taking out those poor, squishy vehicles.  ;D

                                                        Tharnow  vs  Flyingdebris

tharnow is smacked in the face by a piece of flying metal and proceeds to bleed to death, however the piece of flying debris continues on to fall off a cliff and get washed down a river. the results:

tie, followed by a laughing audience lol

Can't believe i just found this site!  I was a regular (read: Junkie) in Mechwarrior 4 and Black Knight and played ALOT online with what use to be TLH clan.

This is so awesome!  My role was always heavy/defense mech, typically with alot of ER Laser for blasting the little guys since we typically played Capture The Flag.

Looks like i'll have to put down the xbox360 and go buy a gaming PC once this comes out!  Keep up the good work ;D

In PnP Battletech I was a strong combined arms proponent.   A company of mechs can cover exactly what their 12 cockpits can see, but 8 mechs, a company of armor, and a company of infantry opened a whole can of options.

With maps of this scale, my goal will most likely be a med/heavy mech, an energy weapon heavy chassis as one can easily find themselves a half hour march to a resupply area.  Will happily be infantry or armor for any commander that doesnt consider us cannon fodder, though.

Dude.. having Armor, Air, Soldiers and who knows what else in the future..

You are right about the "whole can of options"

I believe my Unit had the Tactics and Skill of Mech down to an art.. but with these new addons it's a whole new ball game.

I cannot wait to get in game and come up with new tactics and get back to the teamwork that only a few games can offer.

My combat roll will pretty much change I think. I think I could do most kinds really. But I tend to change it as i go along, change and adapt to my situation. Then if I choice the right one, that is probably another question. :D

Probably power armour or the faster vehicles/mechs, I prefer hit and run tatics rather than just sit at range and pound things into the dirt.

It has to be a medium sized mech, going after objectives/causing trouble.

Ever since TRO 3026 I've always wanted a mech game with armor... That's where I'll be to start..   :)
