« on: January 10, 2009, 05:58:07 PM »
Hi,

I didn't exactly know where to put this (please relocate if...).
I have made a video using the already known video's and the song "Wake up hate" from Korn.

Don't forget to click on high definition...

Watching that little compilation of videos made me want this game all the more. It have been a while since I have seen them and it brought to mind a couple of questions that I had to use the search function to find the answers to. For example the one of the aerospace strafing made me search the friendly fire post because that front fighter crosses right in front of the trailing fighters line of fire. Wondered if the team mate might accidentally shoot him down.

I want to start battling!!!!!

that's a shame, I don't like other songs of Korn, but this one got my attention... If you have a better song, please tell me. This was my first video, so I need the practise!

I think it could have been much better...but I agree with Korjax, it's pretty cool we have a fan video. I'd make my own FanVid if I had the raw video footage downloaded.

that's a shame, I don't like other songs of Korn, but this one got my attention... If you have a better song, please tell me. This was my first video, so I need the practise!

Thinking about it, the amount of Korn songs I like is pretty low. I was in a bit of hurry when I wrote the post, so it came out a bit wrong. There is almost always some small thing that annoys me about a lot of their songs. Either to screamy with good instrumental, bad instrumental with an ok vocal part, or a mix of both good and bad on both. In general I personally would not use Korn songs at all in video's.

The song in this one just does not have a good flow for me, it's to... choppy I think I can call it. The instrumental is ok at times, but sometimes more feels like they are just banging away randomly. Also the vocals are slightly to screamy for my taste.

Vocals is very important to me, because most of the time that is what determines if I like a song or not. I can, for example. like a song with pretty bad instrumental if the vocal is really good. But I can almost never like a song with absolutely amazing instrumental, but where the vocal is horrible. This particular song has a little bit of both, bad vocals and bad instrumental.

But with this said, you should use the song's you want to use, maybe now and then try out something someone else suggested. But you should not always conform to what everybody else might like or not. Also, making video's, or anything else for that matter, is a trial and error thing, so as you said you need practice. The more you make them the better you theoretically should become. Most important really is that no matter if it was a compleat success or a compleat failure, you have to try and learn something from it. Being stagnant is never good.

Ok, i watched it.

I think the clips are interesting enough, being pulled from Living Legend sequences.

The music I don't like... I agree it is a little to "bashy" for my tastes, but if you are going for a agressive vid be sure to match it with whats going on the screen.

Keep at it! I'm new to editing too... but here is some stuff I have done.
1.) My first youtube and video editing attempt ever. I just imagined a loose story about this character and threw together some of my favorite fantasy type music. I got alot of praise and 5 star ratings for it, and it inspired me to make more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp_ZeZzRIno&feature=channel_page

2.) This is a pure gameplay with "fight music" compliation. I gathered a ton of clips from all of my games and compressed into a single vid with music from 300. I thought it would be really popular and get alot views... But it's not. =P But i took special care to find exciting music and pair it to what is happening on screen if you watch closely.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPtUcLs47fo&feature=channel_page

3.) This one was made by people feedback saying I needed to disable the HUD of the game (text messages and health bar, etc.) and also that my vids lacked a "Cinematic" approach. So, taking that in stride i began making what i guess could be called "Machima" and being my first attempt at this type of story and camera angles/cuts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp_ZeZzRIno&feature=channel_page

Don't be worried to much about harsh feedback or anything. Just keep playing with it and make stuff for fun. =] Maybe i will do some Mechwarrior Machina when they release the game.

I have made many machinima movies and have always found that making them with commercial music ,no matter what genre, is always a bad way to go. Music is a psychology. The effect the music brings is probably half of what your delivery will be. Ie: Take the sound completely off and watch the video...pretty boring. Now...play the music alone with no video, if YOU like it,that is ok...but will that mean that your audience will? The percentage of that actually happening is very low.
Granted, your idea is good hearted, but...you are utilizing someone else's viewpoint. Taking unoriginal work and then put what I just discussed above with music and the replies you got towards it is to be expected.
The key advice here is originality. Make it your own work. Granted, you have nothing to go on due to MW:LL is not currently available to anyone to do anything from. So, it is more of a Fan video than anything else, which I respect.
For future takes however..this is advice I can offer to you. If it is a particular genre of music you want to use, let it be a song that no one really knows. Check the BPM [Beats per Minute] and if the video is running a high frame rate or an extensive amount of footage, go with a higher bpm or a lower bpm for slower pieces of footage. Audio editing can be huge if you know how to manipulate bpm's to work in your favor pending the final cut of your video.
ie: This isn't the best piece of work i have done and really was a fart around,but...this is an example of a Promo Video I did for a World of Warcraft  Private Server. The example of three songs with different BPM's are showcased here. Good Luck =O)

I´ll be a little more specific this time. Yeah its Korny, given the material at your disposal. The musical choice however is spot on and sets the pace, thou the clipping might have been better.

Don't be worried to much about harsh feedback or anything. Just keep playing with it and make stuff for fun. =] Maybe i will do some Mechwarrior Machina when they release the game.

Your right, don´t take the critique to close, we all have different tastes. And I can only say that your videos are great, brings out the Conan in me. The musical choice is great and it really sets you in the mode for some good old hack´n´slash!

lol nice ending :D

Edit: Found and old video, Aces over Dark City, showing a reasonably good composition between the video and musical score, clipping at the right moments sort of! enjoy :D
