Fallout 3? Call of Duty: World at War?
« on: January 14, 2009, 01:08:46 AM »
I just got Fallout 3, and had CoD:WaW for a while. Just wanted to know if anyone else played them. Fallout 3 is cool for a while, but it gets really long and tedious. It was made by the developers who made The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, and The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. Fallout 3 could have been better, though. AVOID THE DEATHCLAWS.  >:(

Call of Duty is pretty good. I think I liked the CoD4 more though. It had a much better plot. Also, any news on Call of Duty 5 (Call of Duty: World at War wasn't that 5th one)? I heard it was supposed to be something about Future Warfare or something. At least that's what the guy at GameStop said.

i agree about fallout 3 getting "tedious" and of course about staying away from deathclaws  ;D

and as for CoD:WaW i, for some odd reason liked it better than 4, i dont know why, although i have only played the MP in WaW (i need to fix that huh?)

I liked them both but i tried farcry 2... now it holds the spotlight (we need a drool emote)

Fallout is awesome and about deathclaw, get a Dart gun and they are easy to kill(Dart gun takes out anything legs so they walk toward you). Yah i think fallout could of used more small quest though. Other wise I like the game

I love fallout 3.  It's the perfect kind of game for me.  Just exploring, making your adventures, running into crazy dynamic things, living in another world.

There are several things that could of been improved, but I love the game.   I'm angry that I can't spend more time on it due to the fact that school has just gotten to "rape levels" of work, which in of itself is preventing me from getting as much as I would like to get done with the mod.  These next few weeks and maybe the whole term for me are going to be me eating, sleeping, and drinking non-stop work from the mod, from full-time at school, and my job  :'(

Never played COD games before, but Fallout 3 is amazing...One of the few FPS games that actually reward you when you explore. I ain't even close to done yet!

FallOut3 lives up to it´s predecessors, and the new W.A.T.S. is awesome. But one annoying thing, is the constant Oblivion dialogues!

You know you can skip through the dialog right? On xbox tapping A help you get through it real quick.

Actually, it's one of the few RPGs that caught and kept my attention despite of the repetetiveness and tediousness of certain tasks and evironments. The storyline, setting and atmosphere were incredibly immersive and compelling.

Activision abandoned the numbering scheme. CoD World At War is number 5, CoD Modern Warfare 2 (developed by Infinity Ward, release in 2009) is number 6.

As far as I have heard the main story line in FO3 is pretty short. The meat on FO3's bones is the sidequests. I have goten to play it, and I must say that it is a good game. It feels Fallout enough to be considered a Fallout game to me. I still think that Fo1, 2 and Tactics are slightly more fun to play though. It is sort of a half worthy successor in my opinion.

The biggest problam I have with FO3 is that it does not feel like a pen and paper rpg when you play. FO1, 2 and Tactics always felt like a pen and paper rpg. That is one of the big reasons why I love the Fallout series so much, because it reminds me of how it feels to play a pen and paper rpg game. Unfortunatly this seems to be one style of gaming that no longer is around, which is a shame.

I am looking forward to FOOL though (Fallout Online), which Interplay is making. I am sure it will not feel like a pen and paper rpg, but that's ok, since it is just really nice to see Interplay back, and back making a Fallout game. I hope they manage to make it, and that it will be an awesome mmo.

CoD4 is a pretty good game, looked good, played good, and was fun to play. The thing that annoyed me though was that most of the time I had a bunch of other nps's tagging along. You know, where you had to kill of a few enemys so theycould advance, and where they held you back from doing what you felt like etc. Most of the time it was just annoying to having them follow me around like that, with one exeption though. That exeption being the whole sniper mission thing, that was pretty damn awesome. :)

Yeah, don't get me wrong, it is a great game, it's just that all the settlements, colonies, and stuff like that is spread WAY too far away from each other. It took me a good 20 minutes or so to get to Galaxy News Radio, from Megaton. Maybe even 30 minutes. And I just don't have that time. :/

W.A.T.S.

V.A.T.S. ;)

But one annoying thing, is the constant Oblivion dialogues!

Did you know that in Megaton, Mister Burke (the guy who wants to you blow megaton up with well, a megaton bomb[Mister Burke is found in the bar]) has the standard voice of some of the Imperial Guards and such? I was like, hey...I recognize that...

Actually, it's one of the few RPGs that caught and kept my attention despite of the repetitiveness and tediousness of certain tasks and environments. The storyline, setting and atmosphere were incredibly immersive and compelling.

Yes, like you said, it's the tasks that kill me. Especially when I have to find a new city, meaning I gotta run halfway across the map. Also, like you said, the storyline, setting, and atmosphere were great. It shows what life would be like in a nuclear fallout. And I'm afraid it might be accurate...

As far as I have heard the main story line in FO3 is pretty short. The meat on FO3's bones is the sidequests.

The main quest line wasn't really THAT short, if you take into consideration all the running you have to do.

I am looking forward to FOOL though (Fallout Online), which Interplay is making. I am sure it will not feel like a pen and paper rpg, but that's ok, since it is just really nice to see Interplay back, and back making a Fallout game. You know Oblivion is MMO now? ;)

Yeah, the sniper mission was pretty sweet. It was hard on Veteran though, especially with all the dogs. It took me a while to beat on Veteran. The Mile High Club was ridiculously hard...

You know you can skip through the dialog right? On xbox tapping A help you get through it real quick.

The auto dialogues in game between the NPC´s, not the dialogues engage between a Player and any NPC, thou they really lack some more choices and the edge of the old games grim humour is a little tame.

AVOID THE DEATHCLAWS.  >:(

Snipe ´em from a distance, they tend to dumb, and run in circles when shot at. And run like hell if you're spotted :P
They´re close to the F1/2 DeathClaws deadly feel, when you ran in the wilderness and *whops* there´s a DeatClaw, now I can reload from save *argh*

I am looking forward to FOOL though (Fallout Online), which Interplay is making.

Yeah but I´m not sure the V.A.T.S. will be in FOOL, and that is what make FallOut stand out from the norm.

Good you never played the first two. There you would be really pissed off. Constanly reloading when bumped by a DeathClaw or other. Travelling with a low perception meant more enemies, more loading time.
Even in Reno, some of the enemies were still active off the map, so you could spend aeon just reaching them, that it was turned based combat.

W.A.T.S.
V.A.T.S. ;)

w00t, oh, stupid typos :D

It´s been suggested that some of the dialogues are leftovers from Oblivion :P

What about a Wateland map for MWLL, in the good old spirit of FallOut :D

Yeah, I found out that staying in the rubble, they run around and around and around, so eventually, I killed them with a 10mm pistol. I was out of 5.56MM and Missles. ^_^

Yeah, 100% true. :D

You know, that would actually be pretty sweet. A war-torn city. INCLUDE THE DEATHCLAWS, I AM GOING TO GET MY REVENGE! (I hadn't saved my game for an hour, and a deathclaw killed me...)

In the game, I had to get a G.E.C.K. from a different Vault, and I had to get through this little "society" of children, with this dickhead mayor kid. I wanted to kill each one of those kids. Of course, I was a good person on my one account. Of course, I made an evil one...just in case...:)

I was so evil I blew off the old violin lady's head with her own garden gnome  :o.  I got a little into the who evil thing.  I later realized it would have been far more ironic to shoot her with the violin, but that's thinking too much into it.  I guess FO3 was a good way to relieve stress, until my xbox profile corrupted and I lost everything with about 30min of gameplay left.
