And if I am really lucky I can get my i7 Core build done sometime before the end of the year (pending AM3 comparisons).
I sincerely hope you'll get yours! I am happy with my E8400 for now though, still haven't encountered a single game that wouldn't run on high...
It's in the works. I am just waiting for Intel to throw out their Octocore processors and the Quads drop in price a bit (as well as a stronger after market cooling support for the i7).
The AM3 from AMD just means they support DDR3 ram and based on Tom's Hardware review of the Phenom II vs the i7 920 the i7 is still the way to go when you consider OC potential as well as the 920 being the "entry" level chip compared to AMD's latest flagship. Add the fact that the i7 MB's support both Crossfire and SLI (and I plan on having 2x4850) and you have major upgrade potential for some time into the future.
I will do a Fraps run on Crysis on my current build and post up the results this weekend for the different settings (All settings: low, medium, high, etc) to give a baseline for any interested parties.
I did this not to long ago when comparing XP x64 vs Vista Ultimate x64 for AIX 2.0 BF2 as was surprised to find that Vista out performed XP if only by a little bit in frame rates. Of course I did some tweaks to both OS's to enhance performance and they were both done on fresh installs but the hardware was completely the same. I am interested to see how Windows 7 does in comparison but I don't do Beta's as any Windows is buggy enough to begin with...
