Well, I'm playing red faction, Beta testing Shattered Horizon and playing some mods for halflife 2 and crysis.

I got the following results, after benchmarking my crysis:

19 FPS at the lowest, 35 FPS at the highest and 25 FPS is what I usually have (the average)
Game Rig:
I7 860
Asus Maximus III formula
HD5870
8Gb DDR3 1600

Everything on very high at 1600x1200 (highest my old crt will go) with 8x AA and no vsync. Average frames are about 25, lowest frames around about 19. Despite the frames being in the mid 20s its still VERY smooth as my frames never vary by more then about 5 and it never glitches or hangs for a split second. (your eye picks up changes in frames better then low fps, feels like 40fps when im playing)

Q6600 2.4ghz (clocked at 3.6ghz)
radeon 4870x2 2gb gddr5
8gb ddr2 1066

Crysis is the only game that uses 100% of my gpu. All other games get over 100+fps with everything maxed and AA and AF forced in the control panel. (32x AA and 24x AF at 1600x1200)

I would seriously consider buying a whole new computer. I built mine (posted above) for $1500 as a point of reference. You could probably build a computer for $800 or so, salvaging parts from your old system and be able to run it with a good mixture of High/Very High and still have room to grow and play new games 2 years from now.

I get about 30fps on vanilla sp crysis. I use the dx9 very high config in xp and very high in win7 (dx10) both with the same results. MW:LL seems to give much better performance than SP crysis though in case anyone is wondering. (8xaa takes about 1-2 fps off)

here's my setup:

CPU: phenom 955 normally at 3.2(stock) OCed up to 3.8 when needed
GPU: 4870 512 + 4870 1GB (the 1GB will only use 512 until i replace the lower mem GPU)
RAM: 4GB of G. Skills ram running @ 800mhz
HDD: 640GB + 80GB
PSU: 900 watt

-as another reference- when i slightly OC my GPU and CPU i get about 20,000 in 3dmark06
-another side note: if crysis/MW:LL is your primary game then if you're considering a single GPU solution go with AMD. in a multi-GPU config go with nivida even though it costs a bit more- the few extra dollars will be worth it, trust me.

This make me very happy!

if crysis/MW:LL is your primary game then if you're considering a single GPU solution go with AMD.

You mean ATI  ;)

in a multi-GPU config go with nivida even though it costs a bit more- the few extra dollars will be worth it, trust me.

Not anymore, the hd5870 in crossfire kicks ass and (for some brands) cheaper too... (http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,696698/Ati-Radeon-HD-5850/5870-Crossfire-vs-Nvidia-Geforce-GTX-285-SLI-Multi-GPU-Shootout/Reviews/?page=13)

however, they also say that 1 GPU card is the best solution because of the Micro Stuttering you have with dual GPU setups...

ps, 2x a gtx 295 is overkill as you wound't see an increase in FPS with 4 GPU's compared to 2 GPU's (maybe a fps increase of 2)
