On the community forums, they're still smacking every discussion on this...
Pretty much every mailorder and shop has a different (and sadly) postponed release date, amazon.co.uk for example at the end of September.

No surprize. Well they said that the Game will be done when it's done. I'm more than happy to wait for the bugs to be ironed out first.

I've said this before, I'll say it again... With all due credit to id's quality releases so far, virtually no major release in the last 12 to 16 months has been released free of several more or less major flaws that required instant or at least very immediate patching.
Like they say "it's done when it's done" I'll wait for the final product before I admit it's been worth waiting for.

Seeing ETQW and Crysis as rivals, one could understand, that ETQW will be released later than expected.
Reason is, that Crytek is currently unable to estimate when it's done. That leaves more debug time for ETQW.

How to put it... the longer Splash Damage delays the release, the worse it might turn out for them. Many BF2 and 2142 vets are looking for alternatives. ET:QW might get quite a few of those - if it is available. If not, those vets are more likely to just play "Frontlines: Fuel of War" when done, which is closer to BF2 and 2142 in gameplay and look and feel.

I think SD is not doing themselves a favor if not trying to finish it as hard and to release it as soon as possible.

I compeletly agree with AoP on this one...alot of people are in a sortof state of limbo at the time being and they will gravitate to whatever is released first and is more accessible. All it will take is one or two people from a certain clan/team to push the rest to play either Crysis or QW, i agree that further pushing release dates is overall not the greatest thing they could do for the success of the game. IMO there is a fine line between generating a certain amount of hype and just taking too long and its quickly approaching that line.

Ah, I see what you mean.
Kaos Studios doing FFW is the team, that did Desert Combat for BF1942. They've been bought by Digital Illusions with the intention to work together on BF2.

Of course they have more experience with the BF community. So it stands to reason whether Splash Damage or Crytek share that advantage.
And in return, it would be surprising, if Kaos Studios actually plan to compete with Crytek and Splash Damage.

I guess the mods & communities will make people decide whether they stick with one game or the other.
Prime example: Q3 vs UT

I think another reason why they're holding back the release is because they want to please the ET:Wolf players more than any other. Just take a look at how they set up the game, it's all focused on what the ET:Wolf people like. And basicly only invited those players into the QW beta. Not the best way to market your game to other players, but w/e - I still enjoy the game.

Heh, they surely don't need to play for keeps at this point.
ETQW attracts all kinds of gamers, as I have seen at the
Games Convention (Leipzig, Germany).

You have a good point Dober but gamers are very open minded people and are always drawn to whatever the newest shiniest game is at the time...the true test of any game is after the first year if they have increased in popularity rather than decreased.

I would say watch for it after the first few months to see honest hostility or fandom to the game.

Tough call over the hostility thing though cause even though 1000's of people hated EA and DICE for bf2 yet they still played it as much as some people play WoW.

Hostility towards the company doesn't necessarily cause hostility towards the game. I think 2142 unites both more than BF2, even if it never had that massive problems ;)

With SD and ET:QW, it might be slightly different: The ET:QW hype has been pushed beyond reason almost, if the final product isn't simply great, excellent, breathtaking, people will hate the game and probably SD, too.

Another trailer or two could buy some time.
Or maybe a fanvideo ... Crim, Kami, do you remember the Crysis fanvid I sent ya?

Would something like that be possible at this point?
