My Stiletto STO-4X is 90% finished, some more detailling on the back is needed and the cockpit bubble-glass is also missing (that's beyond my skill levels at the moment). It's not a STO-4A, as its my variant, 4 medium lasers replace the SSRM2's on the arms, so I've designated it STO-4X and christened it "Spatz".

Not planning to do any more on it right now as I want to read up on rigging and animation as I've reached a minimum level of competency with my modeling that I'm happy with, for the moment at least.  For animation I'll build another (man-walker) 'mech as Spatz is  a double-knee chicken walker and I find the idea of animating it a little daunting right now.

As I said earlier I'm sure that a couple of months from now I'll be embarrassed by how rough this 'mech looks, but right now I'm pleased as punch with it  ;D

Crits are always welcome though.

Just occurred to me that with the curvy lines and the bronze paint job, it kinda looks like an exotic AT-ST from Naboo. :)

@Ravir,"Damn you Ravir!!!" *shakes fists* now everytime I look at it I'll see that Jar Jar thing!!! Arghhh!!!  ;D

@FredrickTech, so would I, the Bronze and Titanium, Opel and China are defaults materials in Truespace, and as I'm colourblind I'm not the best of peeps to go about colouring in things ;)  But this way it goes well with marshmallows!  Really I should have done it in some Steiner Parade colours, but if I attempted that it'd probably give you colour viewing folks a migraine.  ::)

...

great work Heretic, but JarJar misses his ears. And I´m not sure how stable those feets of his are.
Feel free to send ...  and I´ll set it up with other .mtl (materials) instead.

@Nick, thanks Nick, I'm getting faster all the time, but just discovered from todays tutorials how inaccurate the mesh is, honestly its truely horrible! (the embarrassment begins lol)

@Kit, thanks for the offer, if you want I'll set up an account with a file hosting server over the weekend and get you a copy, it's 19M (111.5K vertices Eeek!), and my hotmail only allows 10M transfers.  I wouldn't expect you to spend any time on it though as it's just my first model and is really shockingly bad in places, the next one I do will be better as I've learned the hard way to avoid booleans on touching/intersecting surfaces etc. :)

I'm not even confident that the mesh can export into another program without crashing it as I've noticed that the mesh is full of stray vertices and about 10% of the model is made up of pretty bad geometry.  I'm currently reading up on what I need to do to export mesh's into Sandbox and Softimage.  I figure if I import each sub-object individually I'll find out which ones need re-done). The joys of learning  ::)

Thanks for the offer of help, and for all the help you've given me already, much appreciated.  One thing though, you might want to hold off on your generous offer until I have a copy of the mesh that I can send you that won't crash your machine?

The left arm is higher up than the right, thought I should just point it out.

Does the program your using have a mirror feature Heretic? If so i think it could fix that arm problem.

Hi Nick & Cowking, thanks for the input.

Yes & yes!  the arms are wrong and Truespace has the mirror tools but that's the least of my problems with this model.  Unfortunately its buggy as hell (containing all the errors I've made while learning), there's lots of things I could do with it, but I'm going to come back to it later and redo it from the ground up, with much better methodology.  The mesh is really bad, and it doesn't import into any other program but truespace as far as I can tell, it looks ok rendered, and mechanically its good (I think), but apart from that it's all wrong.  It's a steep learning curve but I'm now addicted  ;D

I'm going to start on a man-walker this week and try to do a better job from the start, so that I have a model I can use to learn rigging and animation, then when I've got the fundamentals of that I'll go back and fix the Stiletto.

I've put the model on Turbosquid Tentacles, and you can download and play with it if you want to, the TAGs are: "Stiletto STO-4X mech 'mech battlemech Heretic" The File name is: Stiletto Battlemech.RsObj.

I think you should change that title of your thread, haha. "My Left Foot" is incorrect now. :D
