joysticks for mechwarrior?
« on: January 22, 2009, 08:05:42 PM »
First new topic for me, but i was rummaging through my computer stuff, and found my old MW joystick (microsoft sidewinder 2) and it still works great, but it has a lack of buttons and thus im reduced to using the joystick and keyboard which can make for some awkward play, i was wondering if anyone knows a good relativly cheap joystick that one could buy that would work great with MW?

I second that ... Need to get me a new one someday and was wondering what's out there ... haven't checked since the Sidewinder Precision Pro (which IMHO is still the best).

i loved my sidewinder but unfortanetly my computer wont recognize it anymore.

had to move on to the x-52 (who really needs 34 buttons unless your remapping your entire keyboard to the damn thing)

Saitek or Logitech is about the best you can do for inexpensive.  I'd recommend a wireless, but that depends upon how cluttered your desk is already with wires.  Some wireless sticks can be a pain as they tend to shut down when not used (powersaving) for a bit, then don't want to start back up.  Much also depends on your budget.  Biggest bang for the buck would probably be Logitech Attack 3 for 20 bucks.  Not a bad stick for the price.  Higher end would be something like the Saitek Cyborg X for around 60 bucks.  Looots of bells and whistles, including the necessary thrust slider and 3D twist.

M$ sticks are good, but very expensive simply because they have an M$ sticker on them.  I'd take a good Ltech over them any day.

Forget inexpensive.  Get yourself a CH Products stick (or a complete setup) and never buy another controller again.

I still use a Sidewinder Force Feedback 2.  These joysticks are hard to find now.  The only place you can probably get them is off of Ebay.  While they don't have many buttons they make up for it with extreme durability.  You have to give Microsoft credit for building a joystick this durable.

I've seen it for a little over £30 on amazon, which isn't too bad.

Haven't seen any negative reviews yet.
