There is no way a mech could have enough bouyance to float in deep water. Even if every nook and cranny is sealed. It would have to be designed to float.

I wonder if a gauss rifle could work underwater. Some use magnetics but would builders have the forsight to waterproof the housing for the firing mechanisim as well?

look up the mythbusters episode where they fire different handguns into water.
the faster the projectile, the more it will hurt when it hits the water . . ok, that'S going into the water from air . .
i remember railguns being tested as submarine weapons, but if the projectile is not the perfect conic slug to achieve superspeed under water, it forms up into a pretzel and is likely to damage the weapon . .
