Let's limit the lasers while we're at it.
I didn't want to reply here again. But....

...all I wanted was a question answered. Nobody has to answer it if he doesn't want to. And this is not the way I wanted it to end at all!
I don't want you to do anything to PPCs or lasers, nothing!

Nope we're going to remove PPC's and lasers now because of you. :D

LRM's Arc so n00bz don't spam LRM's in people's faces negating the purpose of SRMS.
Will PPCs also have a feature that limits their use at short range?

No.

The only thing that makes the PPC stand out versus other direct fire weapons is that it takes a second for the pre-charge before it fires it's bolt. This means you will have to time your shot differently with the PPCs than other weapons. Also the fact that PPCs do lower damage than most other direct weapons, but do more splash damage which means it spreads to other components (CT, RT, LT) very easily - so in essence, your PPC actually does more damage over the entire area rather than pin precision.

There are no plans to make any direct fire weapon have null damage at close ranges. All long range direct fire weapons will be available to be used in close quarters as well.

Nah, as I see it the PPC becomes the new longtom (lots of splash), and great for finding holes in 'mechs, the 1 second charge-up timer sounds like a proper nerf though :(  Hopefully they'll apply ALL the heat during that one second, and give a nice "capacitor charging" sound effect before the fire sound, so at least we have the illusion that its doing something worthwhile, otherwise the one second "load time" on an energy weapon you have to lead will make PPCs very unpopular.

Every MW game has nerfed the PPC in some way, it seems programmers get PPC-envy and clanners get antsy when an old 3025 Awesome can punch holes in them just as well as a new shiney Timberwolf, now if we look at the subset of Programmers who are also clanners it gets much worse  ;) ), MW2 it was a slow travelling orb of electricity, so this is a step up a bit at least.......

Why would a PPC become the new longtom? o_O
Kamikaze only said it does more splash than other direct fire weapons, eg. if a laser only does damage to one component the PPC might doe damage to adjacent ones.
I wouldn't worry about it's splash being overpowered and from what I've seen so far I'm sure it will have it's use next to lasers and ACs.

Well not the same damage levels as a Longtom, but a weapon you can fire , say on the ground next to a 'mech in cover and splash the bugger....or for splash killing BA (from a distance too which is cool).

I can inderstand the PPC being nerfed in MW games, it's fairly light (6 or 7 tons region if IIRC), okay recycle time, hits hard all in the same place, and causes heat buildup in the enemy too......works well in PnP but for a MW game where you've got RT heat tracking it doesn't ever seem to fit properly.

Still going to use them heavily, even if they don't do surgical damage, the model described still works well with Fire Support, and a 'mech ain't a 'mech without a PPC or 2 :)

The splash is negligible. Its more like a 2m splash radius. Just enough to hit multiple components rather than a single component.

I forgot to add that the PPC also does the electrical surge IF the splash area hits close to your cockpit location. Thus this messes up the the view of the HUD and core systems.

An added feature to this is that it does knock out your night vision for the duration of the surge (2-4 seconds depending how close to the cockpit the point impact of the PPC hit was), so it does screw with people more at night time ;).

And yes, an Awesome VS a Madcat is actually a well balanced fight. The Awesome chain firing PPCs can really rock the Madcat around :).
