Hackers.
« on: February 12, 2009, 11:42:18 PM »
After playing crysis wars alot recently Ive noticed its got a really large amount of hackers considering its reletivley small player base. This goes so far as guys with hacks that let them kill everyone in the map with their fists with the click of a button. (or key idk)

So crysis wars seems fairly insecure, will MWLL require all new hacks or will the same losers be able to download MWLL and ruin our fun?

If its total conversion I doubt they will be able to plug and go. Since the community for MWLL is fairly tight I believe they will be delt with efficently. Just my two cents though.

I hope so, but its kind of a balancing act, I fear hacking will be an issue if the community gets too large, but we want alot of players right?

quite the problem...

yeah hackers always present a threat to an online game and frankly there really is no clear-cut way to get rid of them 100%. Even in World of Warcraft which has great protection, GMs, and enough money to buy small countries hackers manage to pop up once in a blue moon. One thing going for MWLL however is a majority of the people playing have been playing mechwarrior for a long time and hopefully not need or want to cheat. Also the devs here are incredibly devoted to this project and will prolly stick around for a long time and make patches, and other fixes to stop hackers. Theres my humble opinion

You are right in many aspects, though you forgot that it won't just be the hardcore fans that will be playing. With popularity and fun comes the griefers and cheaters as they unfortunately filter through the core audience as well..

While even WoW has great protection, it's not 100% and many can and do run bots for their farming.

IMO it's going to come down to Server Admins.
The better servers will be administrated and watched on a regular basis.

I have more faith in the people to host than I do in Punkbuster to protect.

The Admins are the guards, the loyal players are the sentinels. Very well put Defender.

i personally hate punkbuster. after their banning-of-innocent-players spree in bf2142 i havent trusted them at all. on my honor i have never hacked and i still got punked'

now a mech that was rampaging through a map with a haxor at the controls.....that would suck

To be honest the same "hacks" in Crysis won't be much use in MWLL except maybe if you are a battlearmor but even then it's still a tad moot... we've fapped with stuff too much for it to really carry over cleanly I imagine  :D

The only thing I could imagine that *might* carry over and be a problem would be something like unlimited ammo SRM BA pods or something (and even then they'd have to change the hack to work)

Not to mention the bulk of stuff involves vehicle combat, which can't exactly work to well with Aimbots and the likes (I think atleast).

In any case, there would probably have to be hacks made specific to MWLL in order for Crysis hacks to really work, and usually people don't care to hack a mod (unless it's something like CS where it's crazy popular).

If anything, it will be the people who can't explain another person's skill and ingenuity who will call "HACK!" first.. they probably won't be showing up for at least a few months.. if that..

The reason I posted this is because of a disturbing situation in a Wars server. Someone came in with hacks, as in he killed everyone with his fists on the entire map in one shot somehow.

And then like half the high scoring players in the server turned on mega hax like that to get him to leave. If theyve got hacks like those at the ready whose to say they arent using less obvious things like wall hacks or whatever ALL the time.

Im all paranoid now.  :-\
