It's true... our actual mechs are actually stick figures and use the nanosuit textures from crysis. That why it took so long to release a video, cause we had to photoshop each frame individually.

I always thought ranged comvat was two guy standing a foot apart trying to hit eachother in the eyes wwth twigs. When were ranged weapons involved? xP

I hope I'm wrong...

In that case I have good news: you are. The only alteration these shots go through is being converted from TGA to JPG and having the logo pasted on them.
If we were to edit these images, don't you think we'd be painting over stuff like the placeholder textures and things alike first?

rofl what? You think we ps these screenshots?

You'd be wrong again though as Adobe Photoshop is not involved in this process.

I'm guessing that the SSAO calculation for laser fire can be corrected can the particle effect be excluded from the SSAO calculation? I know that the SSAO process is optimised to buggery in Crysis so that it can be done in real time.

Anywho, nice screenshot, really gives you a sense and feeling of power when you can shoot lasers so damn far, having a 1000M limit would suck IMO.

Nice. I can just imagine a battle where everyone and their mother making a beeline for the highest feature on the map in their laser and missile boats firing off their weapons from 5 miles away. That sounds about as fun as watching paint dry.

But maybe....just maybe.... they can make the projectile weapons have unlimited range with advanced targeting where it doesn't require a pilot to 'lead' the target from 5 miles away.  :-\

I doubt it will be easy to target a group of elementals or light mechs at over 1000m.

I'm just afraid that the piloting and maneuvering aspect of the game will go out the window once a pilot has access to a weapon of such long range.

Why bother taking an ultracannon and bringing that weapon within its optimum range knowing there is somebody out there that can pick you off at 5k meters.

I doubt it'll be easy to aim at anything this far away :>
I'm not even sure what the Asp in the picture is firing at, to me it looks as if it was firing at thin air, maybe because the camera is slightly behind the mech and his target is just in visual range, maybe because he was firing blindly toward the incoming LRMs.
I'm just guessing, that the only way to ensure a hit on these distances will be to use LRMs with someone close to the target tagging it.

@Askis

Except we've already been told that LRMs and AC slugs explode when they reach their max range (so no gliding past their limit), so you've got to figure that if a Large Laser can go out to say 1.4KM then the other ranges have been scaled as well, so LRMs would be 2Km in such an example.

iirc The max range for our longest-range weapons is 1km.

No, it's more than that, but a lot closer to that than to 5km respectively 5 miles.

Just rest assured that the max weapon range will be quite a lot.

Sounds good to me.
