Female
« on: February 21, 2009, 01:04:33 AM »
I searched and nothing on the subject so here it goes:

Not knowing this part of the game function or if its already implemented (which i assume not), here is an idea.

I am sure there are girls and ladies out there going to play and I think if there is any reference to male whether its a voice, a shot where you see yourself, or any other sex defining part of the game, that you allow for a female selection. I KNOW my wife is big on this issue in any game, if at all possible, this might be a good idea in some minds. Attract more players, (my wife included)

Maybe not?

Now if you could add different hair and clothes styles etc. LOL (kidding)

Am I way off base here?

When you're encased in a giant mechanical suit of armor why would we put time and effort enabling Manginas?

This is not an MMO my good man.
In the fires of war everyone is merely a faceless cog in the wheels of battle.

So if you eject or dismount a mech...you're in Battle Armor? That's the final idea? O.o

I was under the impression that the BA suits between vehicles was temporary until a player model was made after the beta release.  Kinda dumb to think that you run up to your tank or mech or whatever in a big freakin suit and just insta-pop inside.  I guess I assumed the BAs would eventually be a vehicle like everything else.  It would certainly be more appropriate.  I've seen lots of reference to infantry, anti-infantry, etc., which I thought in this case would probably mean a dismounted pilot. Basically MechAssault. I don't see how that makes it an MMO.

If BA were made into vehicle, melee with them would become highly unlikely, as would latching on to mechs due to the way vehicles seem to work in crysis contrary to player models . .

For now it is. Not final as in "never subject to change".

I was under the impression that the BA suits between vehicles was temporary until a player model was made after the beta release.

The BA suits *in* vehicles are temporary until a pilot character has been created.

Kinda dumb to think that you run up to your tank or mech or whatever in a big freakin suit and just insta-pop inside.

You'll appreciate it every single time you'll be able to eject from a vehicle and maybe at least fight back for a bit instead of just getting blown away because that's why there is no unarmored infantry in MWLL for now: it would be nothing more than cannon fodder.

I know, I know, go ahead and flame me with "we don't have to be true to BT"...

That's not flaming.

Thanks AoP, I appreciate your reply.  I thought I had heard that about the BAs, as far as it being temporary until a player model was created.

I agree that infantry would basically be cannon fodder, which adds to the "Oh shit!" factor once you find yourself without a vehicle.  I would think the solution would be to add some sort of passenger capacity to certain vehicles, like some of the tanks, etc.  Maybe some maps could have small outposts (or another thought, MFBs) scattered about that might include BAs and some small arms, plus maybe a light vehicle, like that one photo of the BA kneeling in what looked like a small armory. I know that was just a mockup, but its a good idea.  I think that would be a great way to introduce an MFB.  If you ejected from a critical vehicle, just hitch a ride to the next supply depot with the next guy in from the spawn.  Otherwise every time you take down a mech you can expect to also have to kill a new little mini-mech as well.  Plus, how satisfying would it be if, assuming your opponent was able to eject prior to going critical, you could then chase down the spastic pilot and step on him?  Hahaha... ;D

I think the plan was only include BA for now, since it's really hard to make unarmored infantry actually fun to play. I think having to run to a MFB or something after you eject would get old very fast, and I doubt many people would come pick you up in the battlefield just so you could hitch a ride. In terms of ejection, my impression was that in "real life" (i.e BT novels) the ejected pilot would end up landing outside of the battlefield anyway, it's not like they'd hop down beside their downed 'mech or anything.

Agree with this, and Stormin's earlier comments about facing the BA "Minime" each time you pop a 'mech, I think that would get old fast too, would prefer ejection to give you only a pretty view of the battlefield. once you climb past the ASF ceiling your magically back at the spawn point.  Would be good to have a C-Bill reward built in to make ejection better than death, but would love to have that 10 seconds of terror where a stray round or splash damage, or low-altitude collision etc could kill the unarmoured ejecting pilot, for occasional random "bad luck" coincidences  8)

something to keep in mind, but every weapon in battletech made to be mounted on a vehicle will turn anybody not covered in armor into fine red mist/undiscernable paste, some just do it better than others, this doesn't even include all the splash damage and explosions.

you could get away with having soft infantry in battlefield games because the games were balanced with infantry in mind.  In battletech, thats not the case, vehicles are balanced against each other, infantry are just cheap expendable additions.

You would need a lot of PBIs to be an actual threat in MW.  You can't do that if your team is spread out and in vehicles. And its no fun to bail out and be casually turned into a smear by anything that so much as looks as you.  Maybe if "Massive Action Game" numbers were introduced on a pc engine you might see some of that. but not on something where the average team is 12 people.

Honestly I'm thinking of this in terms of no-respawn matches.  There should be an obvious penalty for having to eject or abandon a vehicle, but the point of doing so is to live on to continue to fight.  I don't think an ejected pilot should have the immediate ability to claw up your now damaged mech and attach explosives.  So it should take him out of the fight, but if he managed to escape his offensive capability is essentially removed until he can locate a vehicle.
