VTOL/Aerospace Air Drops
« on: March 02, 2009, 01:31:36 AM »
Will the Elemental suits be able to grab onto aircraft?  If so, is there a limit to how many can hitch a ride, or inhibitions to aircraft performance based on how many and where the suits are hanging on?

Basically I'd like to know if an Elemental or Longinus can hop onto a low-flying VTOL and upset its balance perhaps crashing it, or plant some C8 while hanging on.  Or can say 8 suits hang onto a Sparrowhawk or Sulla and be rapidly flown across the battlefield to be dropped onto a facility or poor unsuspecting mech?

They should be able to grab on......but they would be easy to get off because the plane is going 600KPH.

The Devs i believe have already stated you can't grab onto Aero-fighters, but I do believe you can grapple onto VTOLs.

I can only assume grabbing on to a passing plane ought to rip one's arms off, destroy the grappling unit and damage the aircraft.  Towing guys on various parts of the aircraft ought to be so destabilizing that flying ought to be all but impossible with only one onboard.

Not too mention you have some elite skills if you can grab onto a mounting point while a Aerospace fighter passes, and that would have to be a few meters off the ground, and it going what 100mph? I believe the whole idea would be fail, but would make a funny video!

You just load a Madcat LRM 20 pod full of Elementals...  then pull the trigger and watch the fun...

After that you would have to decide the type of elementals you would like to fire... (pyromaniac's favorite) incendiary or high-impact elements xD

the planes won't be going at 600 kph either.
they have been slowed down to accomodate the devs idea of the game
'any kind of discussion of randomness ALWAYS WILL EQUATE to being able to critically hit a mech's reactor by firing a micro beam laser while facing 80 degrees to the side, shooting the ground, which would cause a random explosion which would randomly crit his entire team's reactors which would randomly cause the server itself to explode which would randomly generate a strange quark which would randomly hit the earth and randomly randomness randomfapp the shit fapp random!'

I should hope so. Maybe im just noob, but i have trouble whacking 150kph mechs scout mechs. Asking me to hit a 4 times faster object, that now flies, is highly unlikely ><.

Also, will aero/VTOL be able to drop off supplies? repair kit/ammo/ etc?

150 to 200 is actually a pretty good guess i think . . if i remember correctly, something along those numbers has been mentioned by a dev . . of course, i could be wrong too . .

They will be able to drop off ammo, although you might not like catching it....
