steam / donation question
« on: March 18, 2009, 11:50:24 AM »
So I know you guys don't test with steam as of now, but I'd really rather get the mod through the steam system, that's just my opinion as an end user. It just so much neater to handle it with one buy/install/update system rather than doing them all individually. Plus, it is a lot neater, no program file folder clutter filled with company names and random file names.

Question, how is this being funded, or is this all open source / free kind of project? Is there a way to donate for this mod?

Thanks,
Ryuho

Not funded(read, by themselves).
Not Open Source but free Project.
No way to donate as far as i know as of yet.

Yes.

Not funded(read, by themselves).

Yes, MWLL is being built solely on volunteer effort.

Not Open Source but free Project.

"Free as in free beer, not as in freedom of speech".

No way to donate as far as i know as of yet.

That's correct.

But there WILL eventually be a way to donate.
Anybody who gives up large chunks of priceless free time to give us something we've been waiting 6 years for deserves a damn tip. :D
Plus, they actually talk to us and listen to us, even if it's just to make fun of us, at least they communicate.

there's just one little problem.
they are guys.
if we give them money, they will go out, away from the computer and spend it on things like whores and black jack, so the mod will be done even later *grins*

As has been stated before, we have a NON-COMMERCIAL license with Microsoft to use the BattleTech / MechWarrior material for our game.  Taking donations may violate those terms, or at least put it in a very dangerous gray area that we'd rather avoid.  The best way to support us is to play the game when it's out, get all your friend to play the game, tell Crytek the only reason you own Crysis is to play MWLL, and maybe pool your money and set up some awesome servers.  That will do more to send funding our way than a paypal box on the corner of the site.

Well if you want to make donation, I would gladly accept them on behalf of team MWLL so they wouldnt have to worry about spending the money on whores and casinos, and thus, no risk of extending the production period of the mod.
And since I'm not related to Team MWLL, no risk of angering Microsoft or any other companies !!

Is that so we can make the game extremely successful, so you guys can put it in your resume and get a job with a Video Game company?

Quite a few of the devs already work in that biz.

ryuho, looks like they are thinking about making the install process nice and smooth for us. See 4. MWLL Installer and Updater:

Don't know if this has changed since then, but it looks like they know what they're doing. ;)

But...but...I wanna donate...
But I don't wanna get you guys in trubble eithers. :(
Hm....
Ok, I'm thinking here.  This is never a good thing for me, or anyone standing near me, but hmmm.
Ok, I got a goofy idea, at least I think I do.
Mebee we could all pool together and buy PREZZIES for devs?  Just need a list of devs and a wishlist of stuff they want.  That'd be cool.  That's a GIFT.  Gifts ain't payment.  They gifts.  Probably pooter stuff.  Fancy joysticks and mouses and stuffs?  Booze?  Jewelry?  Cars?  Puppies?
