If they really do support the modding comunity, I just don't understand why they don't allow custom maps/mods to be used on ranked servers and just not collect stats on custom content until its approved. That would allow custom content to reach the masses, and not affect the ranking system in any way.

But I don't think their concerns have anything to do with "keeping things fair".

Again, it all comes down to making a pretty penny. SD knows that they can sell these "Ranked" servers to hosting companies and make even more money off of them as well as having the players to buy the client software as well. So it's a double edged sword when it comes to making them profit, and that's all it really boils down to ladies and gents. $_$

The reason why I think they're getting such a bad rap for this and for modding communities is that DICE didn't give a flying $@!^ about mods for their games. They never helped the release of a modding tool - The BF Editor was made by the mod community in itself. So now with ET:QW looking similar in the same path as DICE and EA for the ranked server thing, alot of people are starting to lose hope. I won't though cause I know that the editor that they're making is by the Devs hands, not reverse engineered by the mod community. Also, we've gotten far more support from the SD Devs themselves in the creation and knowledge base of the engine that ET:QW is made in. That alone leads me to believe that SD DOES care about the mods that will be made for their game. However, they currently need to sell their own game in order to be successful themselves. That's why they're doing this.

well for myself.. i won't by their game for what it is.. I m buying it to be able to play YOUR MOD on it :P   I'm sure their will be thousands of guys as myself, Battletech Fans and Mechwarriors to the hearth that will do the same.  So they can't step aside us neither..  If you guys can be known even more around the world i m sure their will be more mechfreaky like me that will be waiting for this mod to be out.   I m not looking for another BF2 kinda game, i'm looking for a MechLivingLegends Life to where i can satisfied my unger to destroy other mechs like i used too!
I love the sound of crushed metal under my feet!

Hopefully we'll see some mod support. After all, once the normal lifespan of a game has expired, it's the mods that keep it going. Like Morrowind.

We've actually already seen a ton of support from SD and ID. First of all with the beta that i can't really talk about and also the lead artist from SD "Francis Hobbins" as well as RRD03 (dunno his real name) he's a programmer from SD has been in contact with us on multiple occasions helping me with a few of the particulars of the engine in addition to valuable tips straight from the dev team of the game!

So as far as support goes it's there...the question is how far will the support go and will it continue after the release ;)

I'm sure it will. More so if we keep up our end and putting ourselves out there for people to take a look at us. Also keeping up the good work with game assets and not looking like the mod has died. I think one thing we've got going for ourselves is the fact that we've been going at a nice quick pace.

If they are going to do it anything like they did ET:Wolfenstien, then there will be persistant stats and rankings in mods. There really is no reason for ET:QW not to allow this. Yes there will be Official ranked servers that most people will want to play on for bragging rights, but if anyone here has played ET:W, then you know that the modders there have setup thier own ranking systems :)
Being in close contact with the ET:QW staff, I can tell you that they are VERY concerned about what everyone has talked about here, but as was stated before, they do need to make thier money first. ET:QW team listens to the community, but I can tell you they will not be getting rid of Official ranked servers. One reason is these servers will be a place people can go where they know how weapons, vehicles, troops are going to react/respond. But do not sell the mod community short, working for a game server provider, I can tell you that we sell just as many unranked servers as we do ranked. You guys also might check out www.TotalGamingLeague.com if your interested in standard league play. They are no where as in depth as some of the old League sites that were/are still around for MW4. But its still pretty fun, and you can win prizes :) (sorry for the shameless plug)
