Yeah but...  RAVER MECHS!  WOOHOO!  Now they just need really big, funky looking pigtails made of plastic coils, fake hair, and glowsticks.

I can just imagine the funny pictures that would come out of glowing mechs :D

i don't actually know what the CBT Rules say about those things. . but they make you glow!
that's gotta be worth something!

Some people think weapon glow is bad, imagine if your whole mech glows.
(I'd make sure it'd glow purple for you tho)
But they do dissipate more heat right?

imagine having a whole lance of glowy mechs, each in a different colors! you could amuse your enemies with amazing light shows!!!

But otherwise it is a tactical disadvantage because all they have to do is aim for the glowing mech...

?
LOL  Can you imagine what the clanners would say if they saw that?   "Look!  It's a lance of freebirth stravags that think it's the fourth of july!"

actually, it's a pretty recent clan developement . .
so they would be pretty much against anyone not made from tubes getting to use it.
'any kind of discussion of randomness ALWAYS WILL EQUATE to being able to critically hit a mech's reactor by firing a micro beam laser while facing 80 degrees to the side, shooting the ground, which would cause a random explosion which would randomly crit his entire team's reactors which would randomly cause the server itself to explode which would randomly generate a strange quark which would randomly hit the earth and randomly randomness randomfapp the shit fapp random!'

Reading up on Laser heat sinks in Tac ops, they reduce the risk of ammo explosions, but at the cost of providing a kick me sign at night.

I don't think they would be on all the time. Only when you have excess heat, so say after you fired something you're mech (or parts of it) would glow momentarily, then the glow would slowly go away as temps went back to normal. It's an interesting idea.

Then again the weapons glow already, so in a sense there are laser heatsinks now anyway.

since they rely on coverting heat to light instead of radiating heat via contact with the air around them, they are not affected either positively or negatively by ambient temperature.

I don't see how this would make them any better at avoiding ammo 'splosions.  But they seem like a great idea for vaccum or desert areas where high temps or lack of air with which to radiate heat into tend to hamstring heatsinks, rather sucky for cold places.

Well That's what they desided to give them. The fluff says it's becuse it reduces the need for "hot"/flamable coolent to be piped around the mech.

By the way if the mech is moving then your gona light up as your producing heat, though if you fire weapons then your realy gona light up.

I was about to chime in on this subject when I remembered that Flying Debris is now a dev...

Just about ANY question you can think of concerning psuedosciency "realism" has already been considered by him.

PS - I assume this means that not only ambient temperature but also atmosphere (or lack thereof) is being taken into account with regards to heat dissipation.

HAHA! Could you imagine a lance of glowing pink Atlases charging into battle? The enemies would be so busy laughing there would be no resistance!

Weapon glow really doesn't have any reason behind it.
This is different, you'll get some advantages in heat dissipation and in return, your mech starts glowing. I'm sure people can understand that.

But it doesn't give any better head dissipation than double heatsinks anyway so...

He's right, 10 Laser and 10 Double Heat Sinks both have 20 heat dissapation, even 20 laser and 20 double will have only 40! And 60 Laser and 60.. Err, but yeah just the special rules.

As its been said before, the laser heatsinks work better in mediums where regular heatsinks wouldn't work well (A volcanic world, space, etc) , BUT they don't gain a bonus in places where regular heatsinks would work better (like: underwater, cold climates, etc)

well, i'm more of an opinionated contributer than a full blown dev.

I'm like this at work as well, trying to take things that would otherwise be pure rule of cool with no basis in science, and pull it back to where its rule of cool with a nod towards some scientific basis.  Mixing just enough handwavium and science to make something thats awesome but somewhat plausible

all this since I have a very allergic suspension of disbelief.
