Regarding mech animations
« on: March 29, 2009, 03:29:44 AM »
Greetings.

First off, I love the daily screenshots. I really do. This is not to be taken as a complaint or anything. Please.
I also trust the whole MWLL team to know what they're doing. What you have done so far is truly astonishing.

Yet, I noticed one odd thing:
The mechs don't move. Really, I followed all screenshots and movies, and never have I seen a mech do anything but stand still (and fire).
There a 2 exceptions:
a) A movie of moving Pumas
b) The screenshots of the Elemental ambush on the Awesome, Hollander and some tank

You've admitted that b) was posed, at least what the Elementals are concerned. So that leaves only Pumas as known moving mechs.

Maybe you don't think the animation are ready to be shown yet. That's fine. Maybe they just take a while. Not complaining. I do know that realistic animations are extremely hard to implement.

But I can't help to worry that this is one of the current main development problems in this mod. Of course, I'm just a peasant who doesn't know anything about the "real" current state.
If someone of the team could clear this up for me, I would really appreciate it. :)

I quote AoP..."The vast majority of the calendar shots are being captured during the weekly playtests." Those shots are not posed, they are done when they are actually being played. Go to Youtube and look up MW:LL. Also, look up "Blood Asp High Poly Rigged" (courtesy of Whiplash). There you have it.

Yes, you have never SEEN a mech do anything but stand still and fire.  That's what you've SEEN.  You've also never seen me eat cheesecake, but believe me, I love cheesecake.  And pizza.  And fried catfish.

Rest assured, we are carefully planning the moment in which to BLOW YOUR MIND.

From a place where we like fried fish, fried potatoes, fried corn, fried okra, and fried chicken.  It doesn't HAVE to be fried to be good to eat, but if you can't fry it, we don't eat it. :p

Man who take girlfriend camping has naughty intent.

Animations don't have any skeletons in the closet to my understanding. I have been out of the loop on a low-bandwidth plan since November though. >:(

Ravir gets a little excited.
There's alot of work to do, but not as many people as we'd like to do it, so it takes awhile to get these assets functional and animated. If we had a full paid team and access to more source code it would have been done awhile ago.

Just working within our limitations.

Pretty much. 3 animators, 1 whom works at Crytek, and 16 or so mechs. It takes time.

You left out fried ice cream and fried cheesecake...

... and yes, I admit to having, and enjoying, both.

Seriously though. The mechs do walk, at least the ones with animated legs, the rest just sort of slide. They don't do certain other things yet, such as squat down and poop though.

Except for the Atlas, it poops.  On tanks.
