World War 2 online

Did anyone try that one? I did for a while. I remember walking a long way just to get sniped and have to walk again. There were some intense battles. Reminds me of the current war games. Except more people in WW2 with servers for the masses (at the time).

I remember playing it once, when you had to whole 3 buttons simultaneously to shoot, it would crash if you tried to reconfigure your keyboard, and it took 20 minutes of walking and transport to die in 3 seconds of combat.

I don't know about holding three buttons to shoot.  I do know that WWII online was pretty sweet (more so in later versions), albeit frustrating at times.  I played until September of last year.  There isn't anything else like it out there, really.  Organized squad attacks with infantry, armor, and air (sometimes navy) were probably the best times.

Ive never played it but sounds similar to the more recent BF games. I do believe you can form squads in BF:2 and i know you can in 2142. What are the server sizes in WWII?

WWIIOL has only one server.  I don't think there's a player limit, but there is a limitation on how many players are visible at the same time (64 or so?).

Nice, i forget what game it was but they had plans to do somthing like that in modern times. Halo had a random article in Gameinformer along the likes of that scale but died off VERY quickly, obviously

I played the game since the beta and got tired of it. We played as an organized squad usually infantry and tanks usually a Opel rush to a village avoiding automated defensive fire.

A few thing queered the game.

Every village had automated defenses.
Later in the game you could not circumvent enemy forces and capture cities behind them.
After winning Europe the server resets and you have to do it all over again.
After winning as germans 4 to 6 times in a row it got old.
There is a victory tax, seems the overall winning side gets a bit screwed on the next server rotation.
Allies usually had better tanks no matter what.

However the cool things were seeing many many tanks trucks and artillery towed vehicles moving across the open fields to attack villages.
Massive defenses and AAA shooting like a fireworks display.
Raiding with patrol boats
Massive naval battles and air attacks.

I used to play it 4 or 5 years ago just about the time they made the switch to Dx.

The changed the game play radically to where you can't "lone wolf" it any more.  You used to be able to spawn in on ANY town that was controlled by your side (axis or Allied). That's all changed. They do something called platoon based battles.annd they still have damage model issues ... nearly 6 years later.

There were some really cool aspects to the game, if you discount your forward base being camped. ... yeah .. the opel .. lol i hear it has issues now as does the betty.

If you like big battles then Planetside might be right up your street.
There's no naval action but infantrty, armour and air are all present.
Huge maps with hundreds of players....I think the limit is about 350....these are BIG maps though...so you often have a number of different fights occurring at once.

Check it out...just create your char on the Gemini server as the Werner server is about dead.
