Well, crud. This is discouraging...
« on: April 02, 2009, 05:22:06 AM »
I finally ran through the whole Crysis single-player the other day and decided to give multi-player a shot.  I tried once before for a few minutes on a newbie server.  I tried again to get a better handle on how the multi will work for MWLL.  I sucked at first, then started to get better...then it happened...

I started noticing I was getting killed over and over again by a guy running around at what appeared to me to be speed mode, but also had strength mode.  1 hit kills.  So I started to suspect something wasn't right.  Next you see over the chat someone letting everyone know that player blah blah was hacking.  I usually laugh at that, but this being a new game, plus mister speedy insta-death, made me wonder.  Then all of a sudden everyone started dying...falling to their deaths (I think) from floor level.  As soon as you would spawn, you would die.  Then came the name calling, etc.  Ok, clearly a hacker, and another glimpse into the heated and occasionally immature environment of online twitch gaming.

I've seen other threads regarding hacking Crysis and honestly I ignored most of them...simply because many people accuse others of it far too often when it usually is not the case.  But this being my first time on a non-noob server gave me a serious "uh oh" considering how excited myself and so many others are for MWLL.  All I know about MWLL's security is that the mod really doesn't have anything to do with security, so you are sort of on your own with whatever Crysis offers.  And if Crytek isn't planning on supporting Crysis since they are moving on to newer releases, I assume that leaves 3rd party security...but why would anyone want to fix security on an old game when newer releases are available?

I know this has probably been tossed around a lot already...I'm just throwing my gripe out there.  Feel free to comment if you think hackers suck.

Crysis MP has been a cheaterfest since the beta. I would know since I participated in all 3 versions of the beta...I really do hope the MWLL server hosts use SSM.

Once you start playing CW or Crysis MP more, you will figure out which are the good servers with active admins that use SSM. The other ones, that just use punkbuster are full of teh leet haxxors.

Oh, there are cheats for every MP game out there I suspect.  The only way a server stays clean and gains a good rep is to have them heavily administered.

I've been thinking about a Crysis server lately.  What is SSM?

What is SSM?
Smurf S&M?

On topic, I'm with the others that have stated that good server admins make for hack free servers and that every mp game suffers from hacking idiots.

But I will also put forward that good league admin also plays it's part, if your willing to hold punish and/or suspend/bar an entire team that stands behind a hacker then the league units usually will take care of their members conduct for you.  For example, in MW3 at one point I often saw the "saprkler" (heatless recharge-less PPC cheat) being used in open zone matches, but I only heard about 3 occurrences of it in League drops, one I witnessed and the league admin defaulted victory to us due to it, and the hack user was kicked out of the other unit immediately by their CO (all units occasionally get idiots joining, but usually not for long in good units).   In another incident an entire team was IIRC banned from the league as they had backed up a hacker and were caught out in later games by people using screen captures).

So there's many ways to deal with it, server, league, unit when they all work together then it's not really a problem, I can see all having a big part to play to keep Leagues playing MW:LL hacker free.

It's a quite effective server management tool for Crysis.

I once stated in another thread it's going to come down to well-moderated servers to stop whatever hacking is seen.
There's nothing we can do about the flaws that are already in the systems in place.

In the original Crysis you could deal with most script-kiddies by buying a Heli in PS.  Unlimited rockets doesn't help poor aim.  In Wars, it takes constant admin oversight.

Beware however, some people are not actually cheating.  I've been kicked from multiple servers for "hacking," when in fact I don't.  I usually refrain from haxusations unless I see with my own eyes a player do something impossible within normal game limits such as firing while cloaked or cloaked speed mode, firing more than 3 rockets from a single launcher, flying, etc...

Alot of the problems with Crysis MP is simply because most of the stuff is handled client-side... hell I even think it was possible to literally just make a change in an XML file reguarding the rules with a weapon/suit, bypass PB (which is easy to do), and then go to town.  That's not even hacking, or using someone else's hacks, it's practically considered modding.

I hear in Crysis Wars they made alot of the checks to that stuff server-side, so it's not as easy to do.

Yah some of the TLL guys and me where playing on a server(had a Admin), and I got killed every once in awhile out of nowhere by being frozen to death. Then the screen would zoom off into the distance like that is where it came from... Also my team had the special weapon place or whatever it is so they couldn't even spawn freeze rays... Very weird stuff goes on in the game sometimes...

Crysis MP...yes, full of h4x.

Basically, as stated^, we, the players of MWLL, and those of us who are going to be in active in leadership roles with units and/or leagues...we are going to be the first line of defense.

Simply, we will need to stay vigilant when playing on a league server...but other than that, I don't see how it can ever be eliminated.
Best thing to do in my opinion, someone is h4cking, then just leave the server, and go to an alternate one.  Flaming gets noone anywhere, and wastes time...for me that's pretty valuable.

Not much other options, there is SSM, tools like that, etc...but WE need to be vigilant as well, share info on PROVEN (see it with your own eyes) cheats, and move on with life.
