MWLL on OnLive?
« on: April 03, 2009, 03:37:06 PM »
Ok, so I have been scrolling this site ever since I first caught wind of it. Finally registered and this is my first post.  Just want to put it out there to the devs, you guys are doing a doing a heck of a job and thanks for breathing life into such an amazing classic.

To the question, I have been toying around with the idea of throwing some cash down on an new computer build, mostly due to MWLL, but I also have been wanting to get back into PC gaming.  However, since the announcement of OnLive, I have been considering going with it since I am on my laptop most of the time.

Question is, since MWLL is a mod, would it be offered over a service like OnLive?  Do developers post their games to OnLive or is it up to OnLive what is offered?

The questions are better served to the people who are hosting OnLive. We don't know much about it..

I figured as much, OnLive is being pretty hazy as of yet, hopefully more info when they get closer to launch.
Sadly, from the looks of it, they seem to lean more towards mainstream gamepad games and probably wouldn't host mod conversions.

One can dream...

There is another thread on OnLive, suffice to say they probably wont allow mods and wont serve them (only the most popular games probably).  The beta is limited and it is supposed to get a open PC beta at the 'end' of this year and we wont see the console to it till mid next year according to reports.  So if it 'does' work as advertised it will be dodgy at best wont support mods and wont be available till late this year at most.

My advice, buy a pc :P

If they really wanted to, they could put MWLL on their servers no problem. But I don't think anyone here can give you a final answer if they're going to.

Anyway, from what I've seen, an actual gaming computer will still offer superior experience to onlive. So onlive is not a replacement for it.
I guess they're aiming more at people that don't have one. So which will you be?

Pretty much that article right there.  Don't get your hopes up for onlive, because unless it's powered by Jesus Wires there's no way it'll work and be a really pleasant experience.

I totally agree, its just that I jump around alot from home, campus, work, ect with my laptop, making it super convenient.  But nothing beats a home base i guess, I already have a newegg list, hehe...

Even if you believe what the OnLive guys are saying about its feasibility on their end (which I consider somewhat wishful thinking to be honest) there is still the problem that anyone who has limited data plans (which is most of the world, even in the US now I think) will run out lightning fast if they use this thing on any more than a VERY casual basis.

Most ISP's in the US do not have download limits and the ones that do are people who for example live at a university and are getting internet through them.

Seeing as this is a US only service, it works out.

On the flip side Korjax, allot of US based ISP's are now looking at fixed data plans.  Just look at Time warner which is one of the larger providers have just gone over to fixed bandwidth and a few others are following suit.  This not only effects the viability of this type of tech but also things like Steam/digital downloads.
