Map Topography
« on: April 07, 2009, 02:59:32 AM »
Hey guys,

I have a question in regard to map layout.  Looking at the maps from the Advent Calendar, it appears that several maps are setup for mostly short range weapons.  Maybe that's because of the views we've had, but I figured the panoramic views we've had of late would show differently.  Instead they seem to indicate that maps are very cover heavy, which would lend itself mostly to short range fights.

Is this correct.. in regard to map setup?  Or is it just the view we've had that makes the maps seem somewhat cluttered?  Many pilots love the opportunity for long range engagements on maps and I hope that MWLL will provide that experience as well.

I think it was the case that the trees at least, will be destroyable ala MW4 crash! poof, no trees. So some of the cover will be destructable,
But about maps other than ClearCut, I was wondering the same thing.
but then again, its hard to get the overall feel for distance in the panoramic views, I think ill just wait to test out the ranges myself :P

I'll just post what I did in another thread.  You really can't tell the scale until you're actually walking around in-game.

If it looks like there's plenty of cover, that's telling me that we're doing our job right.  Rest assured that there is plenty of open spaces and long range encounters to be had.  It may look like alot of cover from high up but really it isn't as much as you think, considering most maps are several kilometers in length+width.

On the flip side, there should be enough cover to let the closer-range mechs get in without always losing to the guy packing the twin gauss rifles 1km out.

I think the cover will make the TAG laser invaluable.
