Wow.
« on: April 16, 2009, 07:27:50 AM »
Hey there. I've been following this site--lurking, reading posts, downloading Youtube vids, snatching up every new scrap of information...for weeks going on months now. I've been a Mechwarrior devotee since Mech2, and have bought and worn out every Mechwarrior game produced for the PC since, with the exception of MechCommander because I like the sims and am not into RTS games as a rule (except for the Close Combat Series--the only one I ever liked). But with the unexpected dearth of Mech Sim games after Mech 4, I finally downloaded MechCommander 2 just to play something Mech (it was OK). I've checked out a variety of fan-developed games, simulations, adaptations of Battletech (Megamek was neato and gave me an inkling of what Battletech is like, which I've never played) and I've had some fun and whiled away some hours, but when I came across THIS thing, this incredible mod you guys are developing--well, it is really a dream come true for me. Not only that someone would create a new Mechwarrior sim game that is a step foreward in terms of graphics, but that you could do it so fantastically well, rendering the Battletech universe so faithfully, incorporating every feature that players of Mechwarrior have been dreaming about from the start. I mean, you have really nailed everything: individual cockpits, weapon customization that shows up on the mech, infantry level combat, battlesuits and elementals, fully developed vehicles--including the most beloved ones like the devestator, all the best mechs (Kodiak!), aerospace combat, beautiful environments...I could just gush for an hour.
Amazing.
Wow.
Thank you for your service to mankind.
And it's free. Incredible.

Normally, after the good, I toss in a few gripes. But I don't have any gripes. Not one. Incredible job, guys. I'll have to build a new computer to play it--the one I have is a loaner, not up to the task I'm afraid.

Again, on behalf of Mech fans everywhere, thank you.

The Close Combat series was also the only RTS I played beyond Starcraft. Your first post is win.

Close Combat was one of my all time favourites (although Total Annihilation is perhaps the winner for sheer joyful destruction), I loved the way Close Combat gave personalities to you individual soldiers and you'd see the same guy freaking out time and time again and going psycho under the pressure :)  Usually got a casualty ratio of around 16 to 1 against the PC, but for reasons I could never figure out I never could keep any of my snipers alive (they'd usually die to an artilery/mortar ranging shot or somesuch random occurrence right in the first salvo).  Many happy wasted hours.

EDIT: Oh and welcome to the forums Nodlew ;D

The thing I loved about Close Combat was the realism. Tanks moved like tanks, looked like tanks. Everything was modeled close enough to reality that I wasn't always going "C'mon, a Sherman couldn't do that to the frontal armor of a Tiger." Of course the psych behavior of the units in the game was groundbreaking. Because of the realism, the strategic element of the game was engrossing and fun. Putting bazooka teams in buildings to ambush enemy armor--which worked about as often as it should have worked. Great game. I'd still be playing it if I had a copy. Maybe I can download it somewhere. My snipers tended to survive quite well. The problem I had was with open-topped vehicles like tank destroyers and mobile artillery. As soon as they were spotted, enemy artillery would beat them into submission. Which was a shame because otherwise I would have gotten a lot of use out of the M12 mobile 155mm howitzer.

Thanks for taking the time to convey a legible insightful message, It's greatly appreciated by the DEV team here at www.mechlivinglegends.net

I'd have to tell you to give Mechcommander Gold/ Desperate measures a try. The game is the expansion of the original Mechommander game so it comes with both included in the same package. It's a great game, one of my favorites to this day. It never gets old and theres multiple ways to tackle a situation, plus from an art perspective the game looks phenominal for it's time period. I use Mechommander mech and vehicle designs as inspiration when I'm modelling an asset for MWLL. Mechcommander 2 was a disappointing experience in my opinion after playing the original mechcommander.

Fixed that URL in your post as that one belonged to a domain grabber :(
We missed out on that one it seems.

Modlew, thanks for the display of confidence. We're working hard to produce something that'll live up to and hopefully exceed expectations.

I'll try it on your recommendation Masakari. I did have a problem with MechCommander2 though--it kept crashing the computer system I'm using. Never could figure out what the issue was.

Sorry, AOP, didn't know about the URL. What is a "domain grabber"? Should I avoid that site?

He was referring to the URL I posted originally. I can't play Mechcommander2 on my current PC, but it runs just fine on my older one. Mechcommander Gold runs perfectly though.

Oh, I had included a link to the Battletech wikki in another thread. I thought he was referring to that.

Good to know about MechCom gold, I'll check it out.

+1 Loved mechcommander gold, while MC2 was really boring and lame.

And combat missions is such a awesome game, I totally agree.  I loved the armored vehicles and hiding them in sneaking spots to get side hull shots.

Now, imagine a battletech adaptation that played like combat missions. I wish this would get modded too. =[

this mods is so-post mod with Merc4 or what?

allot of people cant get merc to work in vista or win7 so i am impressed that you all still can..

black knight works fin in vista 64bit same with win7..

but i be dam if i can get merc to even get past the config setup then it will just drop to the desktop..

anyone got any links to aid me in fixing this or dose it not work with the nivdia 8m/9m class of cards the latest ones out.

dose merc only work in a 32bit OS.
