Taking Parts
« on: April 19, 2009, 01:23:10 AM »
In MechWarriors Living Legends, will there be a system that allows you to take the limbs or parts of an ejected mech to repair your own? For example, the emp cannon of your MadCat(MY MADCAT) is damaged. There is another MadCat near you. You then remove the EMP arm of the ejected MadCat and replace your MadCat's damaged arm. You then steal one of its legs and throw at a random Thantos. How about adding a system like that so that you dont need to run all the way back to the damn mech repair location just to repair your mech. By the way the Thantos explodes.

Sure, just hop out of your cockpit and move a 10 ton arm from a downed mech to your own, without the help of any heavy lifting vehicles ;)

I think this is the most stupid idea I've read here so far, props to you :P

Oh and what the f's an emp cannon?

The short answer to that is "No".
In detail:

- Salvaging is not possible. The reasons for this are numerous. Defender and Ravir gave good reasons and a description of the current approach HERE and HERE. Whether or not actual salvaging will ever be implemented is yet undecided. If at all, however, it would most certainly be calculated and executed post-combat.
- Self-repair is not possible. This is Battletech, not Transformers or anything alike. If you are damaged, you need to find a repair bay or adapt to the thought of losing your Mech/vehicle at some point. Don't expect to ever see self-repair in MWLL. At this time, it's even highly unlikely that repair bays will be able to replace destroyed limbs let alone the lack of BT conformity of something like that.
- Taking limbs or components and throwing them at or beating others with those is not possible. Again, this is Battletech, not Gundam, not One Must Fall, not Transformers. You should not expect to see the throwing of objects in MWLL ever. Melee combat might make it into the mod at some point, but it's not very high on our list of priorities.

The only thing that would make sense is an ER PPC.  Otherwise, I have no fracking idea and must bid for the honor to educate this poor fool into the ways of Battletech.

He's a mechassault player, so he doesn't know a whole lot beyond "Ooh!  Big and shiny!!"

No offense Neverhome, but you really need to read up on the battletech/mechwarrior aspect of this genre.  Mechassault != Mechwarrior or Battletech.

Why not just use them to think "BOOOM!" when looking at enemies?
No need to fix your mech  :P

Actually, I am fairly sure that there are rules somewhere for using improvised weapons like trees or I-beams, and they do extend to severed 'Mech limbs.  I remember reading a comment somewhere about how the rules allow an Atlas to loose an arm to side torso destruction, a 20 ton 'Mech could then pick it up and beat people over the head with it all day, and at the end it could be reattached with no damage from its time used as a club.

Nah this wouldn't fit Battle Tech at all unless its after battle Salvage.. And you weren't from the Clans lol. The only way I see taking an enemies parts is by having a mech with hands and picking up a club.. But seriously that would just be ridiculously confusing to put in.. And there's be people in Ullers picking up Atlas legs lol.. Funny image ;).

For the record, using a severed 'mech limb is definitely covered under the Battletech rules.  Counts as a club.  You gotta spend an attack phase picking it up.  Your 'mech's gotta have hands and all of your arm/hand actuators must be functional or you suffer a +2 penalty for each missing/damaged actuator.  You can also use a tree as a one-use club.

Although it would be fun to blow someone's arm off and beat him to death with it, I think it would be impractical in the extreme if not outright impossible to include clubbing in MWLL.

What if the mech just kicked the limb at the opponent?

Melee is not on the plate for beta or release so picking up weapons or trees and using them as weaponry is not a foreseeable option, nor do we feel it fits into the gameplay we're going for. This isn't tabletop so you can't just roll your dice and get a melee kill.
