Atlas??
« on: April 28, 2009, 06:32:14 AM »
 Hiya I was looking through all the pictures and came across this diddly;

http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/cpg/albums/userpics/10001/MWLL_CurbStomp_1680x1050.jpg

Hilarious I assure you! But after asking myself what the heck that mech was.. Going through every single one of my TRO's.. Game Manuals etc, I sat and thought for abit and then went ot the IS folder and seen thats an Atlas! I kid you not that's the atlas lol.

Personally I am thinking its head is just way too.. Well it defeats the purpose of the Atlas lol, the whole mech basically was built around having a big ugly pirate skull on top of it lol. Just wondering what everyone else thinks of the pretty radical change!

**Edit** I thought it was a Battlemaster when I first seen it but it didn't have a lot of what the Battlemaster has hehe.

There has been plenty of discussion on this matter.  For example, the following:
http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/forum/index.php/topic,2272.0.html

That was the first topic listed under search for "atlas".

Enjoy.

This forum mounts your head on a spike outside Palace Gates if you bring up a new topic without researching it via the search feature first.  It is quite a panty-wadder.

It's the new and improved MW:LL Atlas. So throw your TRO manuals out the window, put on a crazy shirt and pretend you're on vacation.

For gameplay this new design is much better. You can see quite easilty out of the cockpit and you have decent peripheral vision (as much as you can get in a game anyway :P) compared to some of the mechs.

Also the mech isn't textured yet so for all you know there will still be a skull design in place, just not a "it will be impossible to see out of this mech because it has a tiny cockpit window" kind of situation.

Just for clarification:
if anyone really thinks there is anything to be added to the discussion Stormin' linked to above, feel free to discuss happily away.
However, as has been said a number of times, the appearance of the Atlas is not subject to change at this time. The reasons for that have been given in the this and the other thread.

Hmm I looked around and dug up an image with a skull actually on the glass which made it look much more Atlasey, will the giant glass done really project on how easily you can get head shots on it AoP?

So as I understand it, the actual shape of the Mech head determines your field of view? And you cannot skin a skull over the glass? Care to expand on the technical reasons?

Have you seen how the http://www.mektek.net/ developers take on the atlas? Could the same be done here via textures?

I'm not complaining (There are far more important things to work on), I just find the situation curious.

Yeah this is old news but, I like the look of the new atlas but I wish they would add a little something to make it look more like the classic atlas. Here is an atlas off of the CBT 4th edition box set, and its got the same sorta large canopy, but its got that metal triagular peice in the middle to give it the look of a face. It seems the model they made was largely inspired by this art, rather than the miniature or TRO picture. This is my favorite rendition of the atlas anyway.

You know what, I think it is just fine. That way the atlas pilot can see all the missiles comming inbound from my Vulture!

i have to admit i like it better, its got a (more) future thing going for it, not to mention that this game uses the models instead of a clear view right outside of the cocpit... so if it was the same then you be about as deadly as a blind sniper :P
