Welcome to the fifth weekly update by the team of the Crysis total conversion modification MECHWARRIOR: LIVING LEGENDS, released in May of 2009.

The first week of May has been a busy one that has taken the development process ahead more than one major step. Like last week's update though, this week's update will mostly tease and promise that good and big things are not far out. "Big" is an attribute that certainly suits the two Mechs presented in this update as well: the Mad Cat/Timberwolf and Mad Cat Mk II are eager to prove that the Clans were not intimidated by the Inner Sphere's display of power in the past weeks. Friends come and friends go, in this case it's definitely an improvement: a new Mech hangar is replacing the old one. Closing this update as usual is a collection of screenshots from our weekly playtest.

Four variants: Clan Mad Cat / Timberwolf and Mad Cat Mk II

At this place, we've been showing you quite a bit of the Inner Sphere's war machinery lately. This week, however, it's time for the Clans to bring on some firepower. The Mad Cat aka Timberwolf and its "big brother", the Mad Cat Mark II, with their respective four variants are being shown on the screenshots below.

New asset and key location: Mech hangar

The Mech hangar has been one of the very first assets in MechWarrior: Living Legends and those of you who have been following our progress for some time, will probably feel a bit sad like we did when we heard it would be replaced. The disappointment, however, will certainly remain small when you look at its replacement. Our artist Andy spent quite an amount of time on modeling and texturing the fantastic new Mech hangar that you can see on the screenshot below. As this building is just too complex, too beautiful, simply too amazing to be shown by simple screenshots, we decided to simply tease you with this little "before and after" comparison below and present the complete hangar in a little video in one of the next updates.

Playtest impressions

Again, here are a few pictures from this week's playtest.

Video? Yum.

Wow the MadCat and MCMII.

The Mk-II definitely has a different look and feel to it - just just a rescaled MadCat.

Nice work guys!

Those action shots are just awesome. And the Madcats? They make me glad to be a Clanner. Thanks for all the hard work in bringing these weekly glimpses or our favorite game in waiting.

Whoever decided to add the variant explanations under each Mech: Kudos to you. Saves on a lot of guessing and speculation.

Hmm twin arrow 4s and 2 ppcs on a single mech. Thats alot of firepower.

Im really interested to see how deadly an arrow IV strike will be when coupled with a forward TAGer.

also will the arrow IVs range be like the entire map? (if you have LOS)

Lucky me im in a merc group, we get whatever we want  ;D

Anyway, love the MkII and it's varients, interesting config with the arrows and PPCs with the missles in the arms and PPCs above. Also im glad to see the Timby looks a lot like MW3, IIRC it had that same sun/arc design and center torso/cockpit design with the hardmounts and etc. Cant wait to see it in all it's fully textured glory! Chose this varient too cause it looks pretty epic

All of my posts are of my personal opinions unless obviously otherwise.

Practically.  Even though you can only acquire missile lock with them within your radar range, the missiles themselves have an extremely long "flight" range, making them effectively work like dumbfire cruise missiles.  Not to useful by themselves in that case but if you have a TAG laser spotter helping you out farther in the field...

Also the new mech-hanger is truly a treat.  I almost don't want us to show any more of it to keep the surprise for when you guys will be able to see it first hand :)

One question...Why can't we have two kinds of 'Mech hangars, to mess around with variety? The older 'Mech hangar could be used in SA_Marshes, for instance, it blends in. A shame to see the work done on the first hangar just go plop.

Yeah, both hangars look good to me.

You've never seen it on the inside :P

The old mech hanger was also very performance intensive.  Simply having 4 of them on a map would drop my frame-rate 10 FPS.  The new one is much better designed as far as performance, detail, and simply how it logically fits together.

It'll make more sense once you guys see it in action first hand.  It's more than just a cosmetic change, it's a total redesign.

I needs me timberwolf, especially variant B. Those shots look just amazing. I especially like the last one with the tank staring down a raven is epic. I cannot wait to see the video next week.
