NASA is developing a plasma viewport to replace the stuff they use for windows right now. I don't know much about it but i think it can take high volecity impacts. Here is the link

Most a cockpit can have armour value-wise is 9 points IIRC, thats enough to weather a direct hit from a ERLarge, and when you think of how small the cockpit region is compared to the other armour locations, that's a lot of armour points for the area.  Some 'mechs out there have more armour points on their cockpit than on their arms or LT&RT, so it's got to be strong stuff, but in CBT it costs the same per ton as the armour the 'mech is wearing..........

This identifies a gap in the market, gentlemen I introduce the I'mech!

Comes in three shades of transparent armour and has significantly improved protection while ensuring you look ultra cool and "with it".  But you will look a tw@ and balance having to endlessly justify your purchase to your friends without sounding smug!
