Mech Engine Damage?
« on: May 15, 2009, 10:56:14 PM »
I have been playing around with MW2:31st lately, and I was wondering if in the first release if there will be criticals for the engine similar to MW2, (or MW3 limp) where taking severe damage to the center torso or a leg hurts your speed. Anyone know?

Also just wanted to say that I will be buying crysis just because of this mod simply because it looks good enough to be an official sequel to the series.

I dunno! I heard something about criticals but I dunno if engine is in, would be an interesting thing to have back for sure!

I loved that.  I believe the specifics of torso shots effecting the engine and reactor are already being discussed, but I dunno where.  Definitely something that should be accounted for though!

More importantly, will hits in the side torso affect Mechs with XL engine?

I'm pretty sure but not positive that this will be an issue- I did accidently throw some explosives on the back armor of my hunchback once and it would only go like 5kph after that with some smoke comin' off it...... I fealt really dumb after i did that.....

lol thats awesome. Thats the chance of criticals though! Sure it didn't look like a big boom but that boom sent a chunk of the inner layer of armor flying into the mech and went CRACK right into the engine housing now you got coolant and oils etc leaking all over the inside of your mech and your fusion reactor is over powering the engine still so you have to regulate your speed or risk ripping your engine straight outa the mech.

Since you brought it up, does MW:LL have an actual exposion/animation with internal ammo explosions, or were you stuck in 1st person and couldn't tell?

I missed that about MW2. Touching off an internal ammo explosion was a heat dance that, albeit was not quite accurate along the lines of BT, but it kept you from just performing over ride after over ride on that shut down sequence.

... If you override the shutdown sequence over and over like that in BT canon lines too you'll eventually explode.

Getting a critical hit on the engine in CBT not only slightly reduced speed of the mech, but would also spike heat.

Most the time it'd make them go boom

Only if all the engine criticals in the same section were destroyed, and even then that only gave a small chance [IIRC about 3%] of an actual engine explosion. [Usually called a stackpole.] There's a variant rule about taking 4 engine hits in one turn that increases your chance of exploding, but it's generally not used and relatively superflous as if you can take 4 engine hits, you're probably going to die soon anyways.

The lack of engine criticals in the left and right torso is what gave some mechs, like the Warhammer IIC extreme survivability. Typically a mech would be dead once a torso was destroyed since a third of the engine is going with it, but mechs like the Warhammer IIC have smaller engines that fit entirely within the center torso, and as such, only destruction of the head or the center torso would put one down for good.
