Battletech allready has mortars that battle armor can use. One is used on the Phalanx C battle armor. 3 Damage, 6 range (I know it's short ranged... but most BT weapons have a short range in game anyway.) The weight of the shot sugests a 80mm mortar (4kg per shot -though BT also has a issue with light weight rounds...).
Clans have been enjoying this stuff for a long time.
