Crysis Coming to Consoles
Posted June 1, 2009 by David Radd
Electronic Arts today announced that they will publish Crysis 2.  The Crytek-developed game will be built on their CryEngine 3 development solution.  Unlike the first Crysis, which was exclusive to PC, Crysis 2 will also release on PS3 and Xbox 360.

“The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryEngine 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event.”

“Nothing speaks more to the success of the EA Partners program than when a studio the caliber of Crytek continues to work with us,” said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners. “Crytek is already one of the elite PC development studios in the world and we are excited to have the opportunity to partner with them in bringing their award-winning technology and gameplay to more platforms and a wider audience with Crysis 2.”

Oh ma gawd, I'm gonna need to get it. I just hope they fix the "retarded vehicle physics". I usually run into random air walls, and me wheels go under the map, and all 'splode. And, of course, fix another whole load of problems (aren't really problems, just plain stupid things).

Maybe they will take less time making the game look all sexified and put in a decent storyline and the other stuff that make great games great. Other then the looks, Crysis was actually a pretty stupid and annoying game...hehehe

I thought the same thing, nothing kills immersion like having to lay 30 rounds into a guy before he dies, and it still feels like im running in treacle when I move about.  I will probably end up buying it bargain basement or steam weekend deal when it drops below a tenner (as I did Unreal 3 :P).

Actually, unless you're fighting Nanosuit guys, you only need a single bullet.
A clean headshot will take every normal soldier out, which is why I did my first playthrough in a very stealthy way.
Takes longer than running and gunning through but cleaning a whole outpost with no enemy knowing where you're shooting from can be fun :>

well when they have flak jackets on and you can't aim yes it takes like 20 rounds, but if you can aim like me its 1 to 5 shots.

Gotta X2 Sprafe on this. The first run through Crysis was tough, a nightmare and more than difficult, but after that, I had the feel for the game and how it worked and it was cake. I love the game now and Warhead. (which had some substantial improvements like auto ammo pickup. This game isn't UT3 by any means. It's not all about run and gun.  Also, if you're using a silencer, it's going to take WAY more bullets. Silencers keep bullets subsonic and don't have near the knock-down power un-silenced do. So kudos to them for getting that right. Couple that with a Kevlar/flak vest and you have at least 8 rounds to the trunk before a guy goes down at range.

Also. remember that Crytek has always been about the eyebling. Remember when Serious Sam first came out? They set out to build a game that pushed Dx7 and Dx8 to it's limit and it also pegged most top end systems at that time as well. Second encounter was used as a benchmark for years.  If you want run and gun and just plain good Ol' fashioned Stupid fun, The Serious Sam series is ALL about that!  ;D

I don't think so- I suspect the mechanics are the same as cryengine 2 which makes it super scalable..... you can go way bellow low and you can also use custom configs to go pretty much as far beyond very high as your system can handle (though I'm sure the higher you go the smaller the differences are).... cryengine 3 will likely be the same in this respect..... the videos I've seen of it in action look the same or even better than what we have now with crysis

I can't wait for Crysis 2 if only because of CE3's capability to do deferred rendering and global illumination.

Basically that means if I have a million different lights/shadows on the scene, it won't slow it down any more than just having one light.  Which also means it'll run much smoother than standard dynamic lights do (which is what crysis does currently). And Global illumination is this:

Note how all objects realistically reflect color values off each other.  As far as I know no game engine has done this to date running in real time (the above is a pre-rendered effect).

Of course I'm just being a huge graphics/level whore here, hell Crysis 2 could have the worst gameplay ever and I'll be all "oooo look what I can do with this!!" in terms of the tech :D
