Ahem, Gauss-Rifle Slugs are supposed to move at twice the speed of sound. Which is faster than most bullets of today O.o

and since when is muzzle vel: 1000m/sē slower than sound???  ^^

since 1000m/sē is a measure of accelleration, not velocity, and an insane one, at that.  Actually, most rifle bullets travel at near or above 2,000 fps, which is pretty much 2x the speed of sound.  A .17cal HMR small varmint round clocks in at 2,000fps from the long-barrel revolver, around 2,250 fps to 2,500 fps from the rifle.  High-speed sniper rounds clock up to 3,000 fps, with the rare uber-hot round such as a Ruger .204 pumping out at near 4,000 fps, which is where a Guass rifle preferably starts at the low-end, else it's not worth the effort and needs more kick to be more effective than a rifle / cannon round.  In fact, the only bullets that typically fire under 1,000fps (average accepted conversion of speed of sound) are low-velocity pistol rounds such as the "lead softball" .45 ACP, certain 9mm rounds, and special low-velocity .22 rounds that are slowed down specifically to prevent the high-pitched *crack* that is actually the bullet's sonic boom.  One of my favorite "fun time" rounds is an overweight, underpowered .22 subsonic round designed to be fired quietly for pest elimination from a silenced rifle or pistol to prevent noise in a populated environment, or as a "squirrel of opportunity" option while hunting other game with a more powerful weapon.
