http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Hatchet  <-- 5tons   The Hatchet is a melee attack weapon equipped on BattleMechs. While most 'Mechs are equipped with ranged weaponry, melee weaponry is also both feasible and useful, especially due to a lack of noticeable heat buildup.

In the BattleTech board game, the Hatchet is swung in the physical attack phase at -1 to hit, dealing a point of damage for every five tons of weight. Notable 'Mechs equipping Hatchets include the Hatchetman, the Axman, the Buccaneer, the Berserker, and a variant of the Black Knight.

In the BattleTech board game, the Sword is swung in the physical attack phase at -2 to hit, dealing a point of damage for every ten tons of weight. Notable 'Mechs equipping Swords include the No-Dachi.

The Berserker BRZ-C3 is my Viagra.

With that out of the way, as awesome as melee combat would be I'm pretty sure Crysis doesn't like it.

I really hope they find a way around it one day.

Yeah Id like to see close combat implemented to give the IS an an advantage really. All those clan mechs with lil guns for arms (not the kodiak obviously) will be in a tough spot if an atlas gets within punching distance (urban combat I guess)

Still Ive never seen the point in giving a melee weapon to a small speedy mech, its just not as an effective use of tonnage as a laser and a couple heatsinks.

Then again melee is pretty worthless outside of dense terrain. The beserker is cool and would be a pretty scary opponent to face, huge firebreathing speedy assault mech with a huge faffing hatchet, but a couple frontline omnis would pick one apart long before it got close.

But time and time again its been stated that mech melee dosent work with the engine, they said something like a mech punching another mech raised the server ping by 100 all by itself IIRC. Perhaps for the same reason crysis dosent have destructible environments online.

Crysis ITSELF has no Problems with Close-Combat WHATSOEVER.
At least, as long as you are NOT in a VEHICLE!
That's the part crysis engine does not like. Only Ramming Damage.
And that is another can of silly worms in itself . .

i dont know man that The Berserker BRZ-C3 is a nasty load out doubleing the damage on the axe form the TSM and 6 er meds going almost 90kph? with 100tons bumpkins of armor? not to mention you could porbley stick some ppcs or rifles on it for long range and few er meds to coulse the cap. then finish up with axe :) but yah he porbley get shot down by 2. but that can be said about alot of mechs. and replace that axe with a sword that does 10damage  and tsm doubles it to 20 2 swings is 40 armor points gone  there gos a arm 2 to 3 hits or 1 hit to a  light mechs leg.   axe on a light mech? well super fast while the enemy is pined down he could try to flank form behind and cut some legs off  "chop that wood"  Tsm ingaged!

I don't think this is an "I want melee combat in MWLL" thread as much as a "Melee combat is awesome" thread.

You all probably know this:
In CBT you can Pick up stuff if your Mech has Hands on Both Arms.
The Weight you can carry and use depends on your own mechs weight.
The weight you can carry equals your Mechs weight divided by five.
Now think. Atlas has two Handy on his two arms. Atlas weights in at 100t.
Atlas can carry and use as clubs things that weight in at up to 20 tons.
Yes, technically, an Atlas could just pick up Wasp, Hornet, Locust and so
on and so on and use them to hit other Mechs with . .

I'd rather see a Hornet or Wasp being held by the feet.
And when the cockpit swings by, you see the pilot.
Pilot going:"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! HOOLYY SHIIT!" O_O

All this talk of melee combat made me load up MegaMek and bring out my Berserker for some fun.

According to the melee damage I destroyed the RT and heavily damaged the CT in one hit and then destroyed the LT and CT in a second hit. I'm pretty sure that means I cut the other mech in half horizontally...

Edit: Lol turns out it was only a medium mech. Still kind of awesome though.

If MWLL has melee weapons, I will be using them all day!

When I first started playing Battletech, I thought Melee was stupid. Then one day an enemy picked up my mech's severed arm and beat me over the head with it. Killing the pilot. From then on, I learned to love the rock-em sock-em robots.

Now the Hachetman is my favorite mech.  ;D
