Survey: MWLL League Play
« on: July 01, 2009, 02:49:13 PM »
I just want to get a sense of how many people here are actually intrested in playing in a league once MWLL comes out and what type of league.

For those that don't know:

Ladder League is similar to a conventional sports league. You play against other teams and your win/lose ratio as well as the rank of the other team you played determines your rank . The goal in the league is to get the highest rank possible.

Planetary Assault league is almost like playing a game of risk. You are given resources and "planets" which are all controlled in an on-line automation. You wage "war" on other teams that have planets in proximity to your planets. The goal in the league is to conquer as much as possible by taking other team's planets and resources.

Planetary Assault League, No-Respawn

*raises hand*

I also hope a vibrant and busy number of public, open respawn servers exist. They are a very good way to warm up for a Planetary Assault match.

I'm sticking with NetBattleTech and CDS where-ever they go, and I assume that's Planetary Assault. Best form of having a league for battletech, in my opinion.

I don't know if no-respawn works under the current game types.  Don't we have to earn c-bills in each battle before we can purchase equipment and mechs?

You obviously have a lot of reading to do....get to it.

As far as CHHš goes, we plan on joining the first Planetary Capture league which incorporates a no-respawn type game, but that may be some time in waiting I guess.

The fellows over at NBT still play on Pentium 3's I guess...so they are obviously out.

Not true. You'll see entire units of NBT moving to MWLL.

Yes, definitely hosting one dedicated for sure, perhaps 2 if i can get other members of my Clan to host a little, though they'd be off-and-on.

I am all for planetary as well, although I am thinking pure no respawn games would be missing a lot of what this mod offers. Sure I can see some no respawn matches, but a power struggle prolonged unit fight for certain types of the possible battles would be enjoyable as well. Sure if you die in RL there is no respawn, but then again this is not RL.

Another reason I love planetary is the it is almost Unique to battletech community, I almost seen nill- amount of similar types of leagues, most other game just use ladders which don't favor roleplay, which many other game lack too. (as in many games they just go suit up and kill shit, no roleplaying involved, good for certain games but missing for others.)

Did U play in NBT or UTS at all striker, the level of tactics when u have only one life to live is very Deep then. Unit placement unit movement and fire control is very fun!

i like the planetary control idea, i just dont see why it would have to be no respawn considering its what only 32 player max servers? i just think you would be missing out on too much of what the game has to offer with only 1 life. now i do understand how exciting the strategy would be if u would only have one life but.... meh.... id vote planetary but with more than 1 respawn  :P

I think it is totally possible to create a Planetary Capture league that is both enjoyable and Respawn.  I think Phelan has a good point here.  I spent two plus years in NBT and loved the no respawn aspect.  I did enjoy my time in NBT more than MWL hands down.  The strategic aspect of it, (especially the economy end of it) was fun to learn and run.  However, Phelan brings up a HUGE point...

this game offers way more fun than what can be had in just one life.  I think the future of Planetary Leagues lies in a PURELY TIME BASED struggle.  With the size of the maps, "getting back to the fight" will take nearly as much time as it did when playing on some of the large NBT maps....forget their names, but there's one with a city right on a lake, and it takes forever to get there...from two of the spawn points.
