MW4 Online Issues
« on: July 05, 2009, 12:50:04 AM »
Hi, Ive recently reinstalled this great classic, but are have issues with MP.  I have all the Mekpaks installed etc, changed the Live server to that of mektek, but still issues,

I can find lots of games that are currently being hosted.  I can join them.  Join the team and jump in a mech.  After about 2 mins, I will disconnect from the server, with an error message along the lines of 'Connection lost, or server no longer available'.

Im currently connected to the net via a Cisco PIX 501 router, and forwarding 100s or ports will literally take 10hours (1 Acccess Rule and 1 Translation rule) for each port. Can someone please give me a definative list off all the ports you must allow to play online.

If their is a range (stupid microsoft now knowing how to sort online gaming out back when this game came out) of ports, anyone feel like sharing how to forward mass ports using this Cisco PIX 501?.

Yes there is a definite lists of ports to open.  Unless your planning on hosting a server all you need is 2300-2400 TCP/UDP.

Hope that helps,

I'm going to disagree with you there. I forward:
27999, 28800-28808 TCP/UCP and I work fine.

That is your right.  However in all the cases I have seen those are the ports needed for client play.  If you want to host a dedicated server you can forward these ports as well:
TCP 47624
UDP 47624
TCP 28800-28810
TCP 27999

Yep, looks good. From what I saw he didn't seem to be looking to host a dedicated so I didn't say, but in case someone finds this thread later in a search for ports that could be useful to have listed.

Hey guys, thx for the help, 2300->2400 TCP and UDP is is that was needed to run as a Client, to host, i needed/would need to forward the other ports noted.  Took about 2hrs to forward them on this Pix 501!!

Worth a play, but with all this new mektek stuff, ppl just load up on Cap PPC with NH server config, so its just a snipping war. (looses its charm)

That is the best way to play in 3rd person. If it's not your cup of tea join the missionplay server, slightly different style of gameplay there.

the way i would go, is to just make my Host CPU the "Default DMZ" as my Netgear router calls it, it opens ALL of my ports to just my computer, i did that for BF2142, because i couldent play 1 round w\o geting DC'd idk if ur Sysco router can make ur CPU the Default DMZ, but its just a thought

NetBattleTech Hardcore has its own mod that changes the game balance a lot. You see a lot less jumpers and a lot more ground mechs. Plus all servers are ffp HLA, a fact which changes gameplay hugely in-and-of itself. I prefer HC to MP3, but like MekTek's 3pv/JJ wars, it's not everyone's cup of tea either.

If you're interested in something different and don't mind reinstalling the game, it's well worth a look. From experience, the community is smaller than MekTek but tighter knit thanks to the league setup.

"Your current hardware or driver setup is not compatible with MechWarrior 4"
Anybody know what to do with this?
I looked around the web, on Mektek they had some threads that did not help.
Other sources suggest it's a driver problem . .
I am trying to install it for a buddy of mine and this keeps cropping up.
On my LAPTOP with the SAME VISTA it's running without Problem so far . .

Specs of his computer would help, but that might be hard seeing as it's not your computer.

nVidia GeForce 8600GT seems to be the Problem, as the AutoConfig says NOT SUPPORTED somehow.
3 Gigs of RAM
Intel Core2Duo 6600
Vista Home Premium 32 Bit.

i would be interested in NBT hardcore, but FFS, i cannot for the life of me find what gameplay changes they made, only rules of conduct
Wherever mechs are needed, I am there

Sounds to me as if they had made some changes to the weapons damage for example, to get them closer to the BoardGame
