We would also have to make good on the original promise that this mod would remain available at no cost and not be bought out by other interests.
Here i disagree. I have and will say it again and again. IF you guys can wing it so MWLL becomes something like CamperStrike, then do it!
I am more than ready to shell out the Money for 3 copies of Crysis AND 3 Copies of the Mod . .
It would be complex.  You can't just take someone's IP combine it with another party's engine and then sell it as your own product.  Despite all the hard work, those 2 things are way more valuable.  In this case, you'd have at least two other parties wanting a piece of the pie.  I understand MWLL has a good relationship with Crytek, but game engine licensing is big time $$$, and I assume a "for profit use" license of the IP is just as expense if not more.  Mod/total conversion is a different ballgame because there is no profit for the makers.

In CounterStrike's case there was no IP to begin with, it was just a HalfLife mod.  So, I think it was a bit more straightforward for Valve/Sierra to pick it up.  That doesn't mean MWLL couldn't turn into something commercial but then you open up a whole slew of problems, not the least of which is marketing competition.

Anyway, I think MWLL should just keep pushing on and see what happens.   Maybe time for a new trailer?

Agreed. IMHO, this lack of progress report means 1 of 3 things to me; 1, they've run into a problem and haven't had time to play test as much; 2, they are working on a trailer; or 3, they are actually wrapping up Pre-Beta and are getting ready to release the Beta. :)

Obviously I hope for the 3rd one.

I think if MWLL caters to the online community (which it looks like they are) and the various leagues it will be the biggest factor determining the amount of players in each game.

In general, I think people get bored of single player. The majority of people that stick with a game for a longer period of time, are the online communities.

I'm not trying to flame here, but you do know that the CEO of Smith and Tinker is the guy who created Battletech (as CEO of FASA), Jordan Weisman, right? It just seems to me, from your post, that you think they are just a random company.

I for one think that they will be different kinds of games anyhow. MWLL looks like BF2 with Mechs (pardon my crude analogy), and we have no idea what MW5 will be but it probbably won't be like MWLL.

Well from your post it almost seems as though you think anything they release will be way better than anything we have done. It's easy for someone to do a better when you have someone else do all the work for you, for example; if you make a chocolate cake and you have people try it and they tell you what how it tasted, some didnt like it and some did, the second person knows what not to put in the cake and what to put in the cake.

Also Jordan may have created, but just b/c you create something doesn't mean your the best at it. Example; look at video games today, are the creators of the games in first place.....no. And heres one more example, pasta was made by the Chinese but Italians prefected it.

now time to get some food....

I never implied that. All I was saying was that Weisman created the franchise and isn't just some random guy coming out of nowhere.

*off topic* Heh they've actually found remains of ancient pasta making devices and such before there would have been any feasible contact with the Chinese, suggesting that Italy came up with it on its own. (Yes I had to post this, I'm a proud Italian-American and I am actually currently IN Italy and had pasta for dinner)
Until I can put some sugar on my cheerios, I don't worry about eating them....

The way I interpret the lengthy interview with Weiss is that all that has been completed is a concept, base storyline and a trailer using the UT3 engine. All in an effort to land a publisher.

Essentially there is a LOT of work ahead. I think December 2010 at the earliest IF they produce a quality product. If it ends up being a rail shooter console game, next spring maybe. Those are fun, but not at all what MW is capable of.

Keep on truck'n on MWLL, look forward to the beta. I'm glad to hear that you have a noncommercial license with Microsoft, I was a bit worried that licensing would ultimately squash MWLL prior to release.

My feeling about these two games:

MW:LL will hit the deck much MUCH harder, because we (the fans/enthusiasts) like the idea of people working hard and having vision... a vision most companies would go broke when trying to uphold it in this detail^^^
furthermore it is most satisfying to see a "personal creation" being strong enough to withstand a company-produced retail product   which will be the case when comparing MW:LL to MW(5)

I bet that MW:LL will have the bigger base and more prosperous community than the new MW product...simply because of the love and dedication put into the mod.....
which I appreciate most ( do you all appreciate godlike works as MW:LL as I do?^^)

and hell: if i was crytek seeing this modderteam working the hell out of my game, I´d personally give them some hefty supports to krank it up a notch more or so ;) and I know crytek is already impressed^^

I will support MW:LL first and foremost because its ART not a PRODUCT! (sure, sure, specifically seen its a product as well, but noncommercial ;), small but important distinction to me )

MWLL will fill in the endless wait that Mechwarrior fans have till Mechwarrior reboot. And if MW flops, then people will continue to play this game. Also, Crysis community will play this game, like it, and then join the Mechwarrior fan base.

I dont want MW to flop though. Nobody does. It looks so fun and promising. And the fan feedback should be huge, so if S&T listen to us it will end up great.  :)

A question for the Devs.
What would be the chances of you guys modding the mechwarrior reboot after the release?
I have found that modded versions to be much more fun than vanilla as the fan based mods
are made from fans for fans,I have most of the mek tek stuff and had a blast with it long after
original devs quit on the franchise, also really really anticipating MWLL.I will play both games but
have to say combined arms are where its at and I think that MWLL will probably be better.
Thanks for all your hard work to keep MW alive .

even if the fine guys from MWLL don't do it, considering the fact that it's supposed to be using the UW3 it should not be too hard for other people to mod that game. Mutators and the like for new weapons, new ammo, MASC or Tripple-Strength Myomer. New Models for . . you guessed it: New Mech Models ^^
I still remember the good old time from UT1 with the hell of 56k to download all the maps and mutators and models ^^
'any kind of discussion of randomness ALWAYS WILL EQUATE to being able to critically hit a mech's reactor by firing a micro beam laser while facing 80 degrees to the side, shooting the ground, which would cause a random explosion which would randomly crit his entire team's reactors which would randomly cause the server itself to explode which would randomly generate a strange quark which would randomly hit the earth and randomly randomness randomfapp the shit fapp random!'
