I might just be about to commit heresy by saying "I don't like the pods." Mainly the look and the fact they are pods. Look at the Catapult in that video. You see the 4 holes in the lower nose area. That’s where the weapons should come from. But instead there are these glowing growths on its chin. I love the way the pods make the mechs customisable I just don't like how they sit in separate bits on the outside of the mech.

You know... after looking at the image... I think your right. Those blackholes are the laser ports. Well by MW4s way of looking at it, if this was MW4 it would have lasers leaping out of them yes. I guess they wanted more visual weapons maybe they break off when damaged? this will show the damage. IDK but its not really a big deal Just alittle diffrent placement.
Im not bitter I just dont like you Micro$oft!

In response to the catapult....
Maybe they found it too powerful?
Think about it.
Four medium lasers all placed VERY close together in the center of the mech make for a pretty tight grouping.
That is, compared to most other mech weapons....
But hey, IF they have made mediums and smalls useful again, then that might just be the reason right there.

Your entitled to your own opinion.  However, I would guess most would agree with you if given the option between the pod (almost omni mech style) system or unique weapons per 'mech.

But it just isn't possible given the fact that you would have to have a unique model and texture per weapon per mech and per vehicle.  Additionally they would all have to be coded individually. So we do what we can.   Also having them on the exterior allows players to identify weapon systems by sight sense each type looks the same.  Laser color also helps to identify the size and type of laser.  See we do everything for a reason :)

You could just do what MW3 did and have lasers shoot out of missile pods. :P

I agree, they look like lego pieces thrown on. It is what it is though. Some of the weapons look "normal" on the mechs, and then some look cartoony. I ask this seriously, is there anyway to scale the weapons to the size of the mech? Small lasers on small mechs look good, but the larger guns on smaller mechs look... not good.

If I attach a 20 foot pole to a tank it doesn't look huge, but if I were to take that 20 foot pole and hold it then it would look huge. The thing is that whether the 20 foot pole is on the tank or in my hand, it is still a 20 foot pole.
