Welcome to the 16th Weekly Update by the team of MechWarrior: Living Legends, a Crysis total conversion modification, which covers the activities of the third week of July of 2009.
This week's update introduces new particle effects for Mech core explosions - if you thought our former ones were huge, wait till you see the new ones - as well as a first glimpse at the new cockpits that are currently being worked on. As always, we're concluding this update with a few playtest impressions

Mech cockpits - Work In Progress

Just recently, a new member joined the MWLL Developer team: Gibbage, who will be working on the cockpits. Some of the results of this work are shown below: a couple of WIP shots of an Inner Sphere cockpit.

New particle effects: Mech core explosions

Exploding Mech core are supposed to be monumental and impressive, which is why they're under permanent observation and examination. The result of this process is yet another updated set of particle effects. Check them out below!

Playtest Impressions

Again, here are a few pictures from this week's playtest.

Well....the new particle effects are alright, but I think they look a little like overkill to be honest. For some reason I just find the rings to be out of place and bizzare looking, of course I haven't seen the actual animation in a video so the screenshots may seem kind of odd. The new cockpits, however, look awesome - great work. Love the playtest impressions as usual.

I agree... kind of. I think the circles look a bit out of place. Would rather have seen a mushroom cloud effect, but I also agree that the animation being absent could be what is throwing it off.

Cockpit looks really great.
Don't forget that's a nuclear reaction which goes to hell. So I think that totally fits and looks just outstanding.
The 'explosion' itself is a shroom I think but the shockwaves are circles ...

I don't know if someone asked before.... do you see when anyone got killed?
Something like ' Player A  imageofweapon Player B ' or  the names of your teammates which change the color from green to red when killed?
Last version would be pretty cool and realistic I think.

Yup, thought the same thing. :-\
The rings look weird, I'd prefer a plume of smoke going up from the top of the explosion, or less obvious rings.

Great looking cockpit though and the dust behind the jumping Longinus is awesome. ;D

Btw, haven't seen an elemental in a while, you guys prefering the Longinus to test stuff?

Splash damage from a core explosion should also be epic.

The thing is, it should be something that only very rarely happens.   i.e. you don't get a core explosion when you hit the eject button. :D

As for the rings, I think they look cool. It's hard to tell if it's out of place without seeing how they are formed in the animation. But I can see the rings happening as an aftereffect of the explosion when the partials start getting carried along with the air currents.

Well It all looks very nice but, and I know I'll catch hell from this but... The Explosions seem to big, much bigger then the Madcat dieing in Mechwarrior 3... the vulture in that Intro was pretty close when it happend he didnt go down just ended up with some leg damage. So it seems a big over kill in size to me, the one in the new video MW:reboot/5 whatever? was about that same size as the one in MW3 intro. And Secondly for Realism... those buttoms behind the joysticks...  shouldnt the be raised a bit? and moved forward? I operate heavy equipemt and buttons of importance placed that far forward and behind a Joystick console would be hard to get to... Not that its really important in a game, I just thought I would point out that it seems a bit far from where the pilots back would be. Anyways... It looked Awesome as always guys! Hope this is seen as constructive, and yeah I know the cockpit was WIP.
Im not bitter I just dont like you Micro$oft!

Wow....I didn't notice that at all. Hahaha I think you'd be in trouble if you had to use those buttons in combat.

nice pics again. the explosion looks like the latest pics from the nuketests :D.
to the cockpit, i can say its ok, but i do agree that another console can be closer to the pilot. the other buttons can stay, because these could be for startup eg.  i know from the helicoptersim dcs blackshark that many buttons weren´t easy to reach for the pilot. these buttons were all buttons wich were not necessary for the combat.
but to the otherside it´s just an optical note wich isn´t important really for mwll.
