Got to agree the Owens cockpit looks fantastic, button placement looks about right, if they were behind the joystick the pilot would have trouble getting elbow room to press them from what I can see.

Love the little touches like the pipes, the F-16 style sticks, the hand-holds and the ejection ribbons.  8)

With all that detail it's got me wondering, is this the model that we'll see in the game or a high-poly version for texture purposes?

High poly most likely, it seems pretty intense to be the actual model, especially when the devs will want to reserve most of the polys for detailing the 'mechs.

Is this new cockpit gonna be used for all mechs, or is this just for one mech?

I would guess from the caption that it would be used for all inner sphere mechs.

I actually assumed it was just for the Owens, hence the question. I really do hope it's for all IS mechs, otherwise it sounds like more delay to the game.

Ok, here is my question... When a core breaches you basically have a nuclear detonation right? Shouldn't there be an EMP wave associated with that? Shouldn't any mech with in a radius of 'X' shut down and not be able to come back online?

http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/forum/index.php/topic,5236.msg69481.html#msg69481

But I agree on the reply after: I am sure Mechs are immune to the EMP. Maybe they use fibre channel for data transfers? :D

I would have to throw my voice in and say that core explosions should be relatively rare. If every explosion is a core explosion, it loses the spectacle. That's one of the things that irked me about Mechwarrior 4 - every single explosion was the same "reactor breach" animation, and while it was really cool, it got boring when that was what you saw every time a 'mech was destroyed.

it really does, especially when you figure in that after the mission a bunch of tech's went out and salvaged 2-3 mechs who's reactor went critical...

Little realism/immersion touches like that really sell a game.

Like if the fusion powered tanks sometimes went critical (but could function in a vacuum or underwater) and the cheaper I.C.E. machines couldn't go into space or underwater (different choices, different maps), or hovercraft not going underwater....and of course 'mechs not just going boom but falling on their face, or toppling over, or just ceasing to move anymore...all would be cool.

But that's a LOT of work!   I'm willing to do the MW4 thing for a year or more without it feeling cheap (and anyways, we can pester the Devs when they're done with the Beta or first release and are not under such stress....Muhahahaha).

As for the small cockpit, its an Owens cockpit.  Its a very small mech, hence the small cockpit.  Think of it as a figher jet of the mech's.  In something like a Madcat it will be much larger.

As for the nukeing mech's, its comical to see everyone flee the area once someone goes down.  There are definite ques that tell you its time to get out of dodge.  If your in a BA, you need to lay on the jump jets and SCRAM!   :o  It adds a lot to the game and overall strategy.  One of the things I hated most in MW4 was the mech dogpile.  This helps prevent that, a lot, but the game is still evolving greatly.
