hmmm....

I do happen to know that no mech I have ever heard of is piloted by a ele. Them cockpits are pretty small, and even in an Atlas, there was not room for 1 ton+ of armor. Nor could a neurohelmet be integrated into battlearmor or go ontop of it or under it :)

Now I am fully willing to suspend my disbelief and say ok, but besides that there is also the practical aspect of:

Will everyone's default skin be a base elemental with slas claw and srm or will it cost us some coin to buy that?

Yep, stock.  They are using it as a game mechanic, cause balancing out infantry would be tricky at best.

What you didn't notice was the Coat hook on the side of the mechs. That is where you hang your BA when you get into your ride.

Some light BA can be worn by a 'mech pilot and not interfere with piloting...IIRC the DCMS D.E.S.T. squads use a very light BA suit for some of their pilots....but comparing that type of suit to an Elemental or Longinus is like comparing an Owens to an Atlas...so not much difference between a light BA suit and an unarmoured grunt from a 'mech weapons PoV.

My main gripe is the mini-me factor...kill the tank/'mech then kill the Mini-me that pops out....every time :(  Would MUCH prefer ejection to land you back at base with your C-Bills intact (maybe running the risk of dying if you eject into an explosion or are shot while ejecting), and keep BA as a specialised role, not as a default. I could be proven wrong, maybe it'll be a fun addition and not just a copy of something bad from MechAssHat.....so I wait to be surprised.

But I'm willing to bitch like hell about it, after release of the beta, that is.... if it's as lame as it sounds ;)

Im a big supporter of the eject to respawn with your cbills, or die, to respawn with your current rank minimum. If you are in the fight with a few enemy vehicles\mechs anything you kill just removes that threat to add an enemy battle armor to the fight against you...

I say if your going to have to be a BA, make it only mechs and also do the ejection. Give pilots the chance to take out the pilot in the air, like the books. Gives some down time between the mech and the BA fight. Also gives the BA the possibility of being forgotten about and making a surprise appearance. Evens it out a little more and keeps you from fighting the same guy twice right away.

also how much "physical" effect are the reactor explosions going to have? in the books it was not enough to hurt a mech by itself, flying debris was another matter. It had a large effect on things in the air. What are the chances of being taken out by a buddy nearby exploding?
With Falcon sight we choose our foes.
On Falcon wings we harry them.
With Falcon claws we smite our foes.
And with Falcon tenacity we win.

Seeing how big those explosions are when the mechs go critical that ejection pod has got to go a long, long way just to survive. lol.

Hello All,

Found this mod recently and have been diggin through the forums and preparing my system for release.  Everything looks amazing.  I couldn't believe this was a pro bono project.  I'll have to build a new rig just to appreciate it all. Thank you Dev's!  As an old school Btech player core breaches should not be a dime a dozen.  Also BA in a mech cockpit?  Why would unarmoured foot soldiers with a mg or shoulder fired srm be out of the question?  If you crawl out of your mech in the middle of a war zone your chances should be slim to none.  If its game play issue of a long walk back to base then a sitting duck eject would be best.  With such great features like cone of accuracy and proportional turning based on throttle setting contributing to that great BT feel i can't help but want this thing to be truly great.

Welcome to the forums Razor. At first, there was going to be infantry. You can probably still see the concept art and models. I'm not sure if you are for or against the idea of BA popping out of 'Mechs, but at least this way, there is incentive to build well rounded 'Mechs (or at least carry some machine guns) instead of ERLL boats.

Infintry are just not pratical in a game where there is a 32 player limit max, and where maps are several kilometers in size and everything moves rather fast.  It will also take some time to put them in and then have them somehow have a purpose.

Also, battle armor are NOT inside the cockpits, they are just the style of player you play as if you are not inside of a mech/vehicle. Sure it's just an aesthetic matter but just thought I should point that out :P

Wohohoo!!!

I am so happy to hear that there is no BA in a cockpit!

Can any of the dev's share any mechanics on what will happen when your mech/tank gets disabled?

I am going to have to assume that if a aero-jock gets there ride trashed but are not outright killed there is an eject, so the same basic idea there but ejection would have to be based on pulling the chord early or luck.

Would love to know :)

Well if you have a good eye you might have noticed for the weekly updates in the past month or two there have been no BA models inside mech cockpits :P

I understand that default BA is a concession to playability.   No problems there.  Will certain criticals (ammo boom, head shot) result in pilot death or will there always be a little BA turd dropping out of your destroyed target to savage your ankles?  Maybe some sort of delay for respawn or let them sit stunned for 10 sec so that if you want to be through you can finish them off and send them back to base.  I'm sure once everything is final it will be no big deal.  We'll just have to adjust tactics.  Have a lance of SRM tanks following the mechs around to mop up.

From what I understand if you don't hit the eject button and your mech is destroyed, then you die in a horrible fusion-generated fireball. Ejecting also has a delay, so it won't be exactly like every episode of G.I. Joe where guys are ejected before their tank gets hit with a laser.

That being said, if you eject, then you are ejected via booster rockets (I believe) and do not suddenly materialize next to your ride. This means that you will have some time to watch from above, get your bearings, and maneuver on your way down, hopefully into some cover rather than into a carefully timed SRM barrage.

This is somewhat correct.  If your mech/vehiecle is destroyed, you die along with it.  The only way to "save" yourself is to manually eject, which works but has it's own drawbacks that are being worked on.
