I have been following this site for a very long time. Although I rarely post anything in the forum I am a long time loyal fan. Its interesting how the Dev's can show us SO much in the form of screen shots but totally leaves us in the dark as to everything else.
I would like to see a simple picture of a white board somewhere with a list of things they still have to do. and watch things get crossed out from time to time.
The feeling I get is that you guys are at the polishing stage and only some user interfaces and cockpit stuff is still on the board aside from texture work.
personally I would play it with MW4 level textures and be happy to wait for patches to get visual upgrades. I sure am not asking for a release date or anything but a clearer picture of what is left at this stage would be fantastic.
as it is now I eagerly await every new weekly update only to say oh well just another skin/particle upgrade. Don't get me wrong the stuff thats coming each week looks fantastic!. Just saying. some solid info would be much appreciated
We understand your concern and will talk among the team to see what we can do, but take a second to ask yourself this, have you seen professional developers giving fans status of their work or even movie productions telling fans what shot they are working on......no. We would like to be treated as a professional dev team and thus so working like a professional dev team, no developer will show or release unfinished work, unless shown in a beta to fix tiny details.
I will echo Sherrell's statement that releases of fine details on in-progress projects are not common and should not be expected from the dev team.
It's not as though Capcom is telling you "Well, today we worked on the render engine, we managed to knock another 5ms off the frametime. Oh, and Dave over in stats tracking says that we need to increase our storage capacity to a 10TB SAN in order to allow for the number of user profiles expected at launch." This level of transparency/visibility simply isn't practical for most development teams (professional or "mod") due to a limited amount of resources and often there are confidentiality issues in play as well.
I feel like this question has been asked a number of times on the forums, and the answer is always the same. The Weekly content and news releases are intended to present a snapshot of development progress, and due to the nature of the format, most of the progress shown is on the visual side (new particles, textures, vehicles, maps). It's difficult to take a snapshot of FPS performance increases or how the effect of better LODs on certain assets have on overall map performance. These would be examples of presenting unfinished assets/work to the general public, which has already been stated as something that will not be done and should not be expected.
We appreciate your continued patience and understanding!
