(Personally i say "F-you" Macross for screw'in with me mechwarrior, and i hope MWLL kills all their profits MWaahahahah!!!!)
Yea, that's a good thing to say with all that's happening.....good one, brilliant.

I hope that this issue gets resolved so that maybe the people who created the image of the War Hammer and other mechs from Robotech get some royalties. I really hope that once and for all the issue is laid to rest! I'm sick of this being an issue every time MW comes up, I thought it was dumb when it happened the first time. My favorite mech gone from the pages of all the technical readouts, what BS, just pay some royalties and be done with it!

As for MWLL, we eagerly await its arrival and are looking forward to being able to put up a Mixed lance and a few Aerospace fighters! Now if we can get the orbital cannons online! We love ya guys for all the hard work! Wish we could help!

these legal folk... i spit on them and their family!

I have something more vulgar to do to them. But it so bad cannot be said on a family forum, or ANY forum.

Forgive them for protecting their rights, it is their after all.  The designs BELONG to them, not Smith and Tinker or even Microsoft.  God forbid the artists get credit and what is due to them

Of course  MW3015 will continue. They only need to change the warhammer model or remove it, so what, no big deal. There are TONS of other mechs.

What I don't get is why they just don't pay Harmony Gold the money to license the designs. They seem to want to use them bad enough to keep trotting them out (at the risk of being sued). Obviously if the amount Harmony Gold wants is too outrageous then Smith & Tinker can just use the reseen versions or drop them entirely, and pay them zero...

I can't believe this same issue keeps coming up over and over again!

They won't cancel the game. Mechs might change.

Also for those of you who don't know, Harmony Gold gave permission to MekTek for them to use the Warhammer, Marauder and others in their mechpaks. They didn't have to or didn't even need to respond, but they did and allowed use. I think S&T, Microsoft and Topps/Catalyst Games just need to work it out. More assuredly, the game will more than likely continue development.

Actually this isnt true. Mektek never asked harmony gold for permission. The reason why they are able to use them is because mektek isnt making any money off the mekpaks.  Mektek even turned down the mw4 source code from microsoft because of this. (and the fact that microshaft would have their hands all over the mekpaks and prob try and sell them) I would know, i used to be a mektek lifer and beta tester for the mekpaks....Glad to have moved on....

That's exactly what I'm thinking...
All this wouldn't be happening right now if some people hadn't just stolen designs and ideas from others ::)

I guess they'll just alter the Warhammer some more, so it isn't a blatant copy anymore.

MW could just use the redesigns that were provided ages ago. Unless they think their own artists were crap. Which, I suppose, is a valid concern for their early work.

Solarmech says otherwise:

Ok folks lets get soem facts in here. HG is protecting their property. If the didn't take action such as this anyone oen could start making money of their IP. And HG is useing the Macross IP in that Palladium ( http://www.palladiumbooks.com/Merchant2/me...egory_Code=R550 ) licenced Robotech (again). In fact HG might be legaly OBLIGATED to take such as move as part of the licensing agreement.

Also while it it easy to bitch about Harmony Gold, the truth is FASA NEVER had legal rights to the Macross mechs. Yes, FASA stole them And the info we got from the lawsuite admits to that fact. And I would like to remind you folks that Harmony Gold was nice enough to give MekTek permission to add the Macross mechs to MW4. That is something they did not have to do. You really ought to be thanking HG that they didn't go and screw over Catalyst as they certainly could have.

Spamming Harmony Gold and otherwise causeing trouble for them Gold is a VERY VERY bad idea and could in fact make it HARDER for Catalyst to license the Macross mechs. It's a bad idea to piss off people that you want to have do a favor for you. sm

Harmony Gold doesn't have any interest in non-profit free mods like MWLL and Mektek.  Nobody even knows or cares about Robotech these days (it's pretty much a dead franchise), and the only reason why HG is looking to snag some legal action is to make a quick buck off of it.  There's no real competition to be had, and there's no real amount of money they can get off a non-profit project so perhaps that is why stuff like Mektek and us can get away with it (or ask for permission and they be fine with it).

There's actually quite a bit that can go wrong if you don't protect your property properly against "not for profit" projects and why there is the clear danger of mods getting "foxed". Even if there's no money, there is still danger of damage of similar products (Halogen vs Halowars, AvP mods, Jurassic Park mods, Goldeneye Source mod, etc) that can be decided are infringing on copyrights. That was the whole reason we asked in the beginning and why it's proper for Mektek to still receive permission especially now they are releasing their mekpaks with MW4:Mercs for free. In this case of Harmony Gold giving Mektek permission to use the mechs, yes they might not care because it's non-profit, but it will further embed into peoples mind that when they play the MechWarrior, they will see a property that should not belong. It will have the staple mechs that helped make Battletech fairly popular even though they are a support piece and not all that important in Macross.

Also, just because Robotech is practically dead here in the states, doesn't mean it is internationally. Macross is still going strong and with Macross Zero recently, plus Robotech Shadow Chronicles coming out a few years ago.

I hope that isn't a general statement.  And it isn't the lawyer's choice to sue them.

Lawyers are all scum.  Where's the problem with what he said?  :)

America would be better without them.  We wouldn't have so many pansy candy-asses whining and using lawyers to get their way.

Speaking on behalf of what some folks might call the evil empire,

Harmony Gold may very much want MWLL and MekTek to succeed with there art. Right now those mechs are not getting much facetime, and that IP is dead in the US. If MWLL and MekTek can give some free advertising/revitalize that IP, that is actually in HG's best interest. Makes there IP worth more. Makes Tinker Smith et all more likely to want to include those mechs and pay HG for it.

Rather than a quick buck in suing TS, HG may simply be flexing a little muscle to get a cut of the profits later.
