Macross = greatness
Robotech = also greatness in that sure it was 'cobbled together' as the naysayers say, but it introduced a generation to the wonder of giant robots in anime, along with a decent space opera-esque story. I rushed home from school every day to watch it and I wouldn't have even known about BattleTech if it wasn't for Robotech getting my attention diverted to such things.
As a for MW5 being sued and speculation surrounding it, don't jump to the conclusion that it is Harmony Gold being the bad guy here. There were other Japanese companies involved, fighting over licensing rights domestic and abroad to Japan, that have been at this for a while.
